Why did Sue turn into a tree?

**MAJOR RAISED BY WOLVES SEASON 2 EPISODE 6 SPOILERS AHEAD!**

You could say that Season 2 has been transformative for the characters of HBO Max’s Raised By Wolves. Mother (Amanda Collin) has become the ruler of a compound of atheist settlers, while Father (Abubakar Salim) has coaxed an ancient alien android named Grandmother (Selina Jones) back to life. But the biggest shift might have happened this week for Sue (Niamh Algar). Sure, she’s now fully embraced Sol and been reunited with Marcus (Travis Fimmel) and Paul (Felix Jamieson). That’s a change! But more importantly, it appears that Sue becomes a tree in the final moments of Raised By Wolves Season 2 Episode 6 “The Tree.”

So did Raised By Wolves really just turn Sue into a tree??

Raised By Wolves was created by writer Aaron Guzikowski and is executive produced by legendary director Ridley Scott. The wildly imaginative show takes place in a future where humanity has destroyed the Earth during a vicious world war. On one side were the atheists; the other, a powerful religious cult known as the Mithraic Church. When Raised By Wolves Season 2 begins, Sue is struggling to find her place in the atheist settlement. Sue was an atheist medic who — along with husband Marcus — stole the faces and identities of prominent Mithraics to take their place in an off-world ark. Only after they were aboard did they realize a sweet kid named Paul came along with the deal.

Marcus soon decides to devote himself to Sol, much to Paul’s happiness. But the kid is disappointed in Sue (and seemingly aware of her deception). In last week’s wild episode, Sue surrendered herself to Sol’s will in order to find the cure for an illness turning Paul into a snake. This week, she joins Marcus and Paul’s mission to steal a vital artifact from the atheists. Once they open this artifact, the trio believe they will be blessed by Sol. Instead, the end of this week’s episode seems to suggest Sol’s blessing was to…transform Sue into a magical tree?

So is that really what happened? Is Sue a tree now? What the hell just happened on Raised By Wolves?

Raised By Wolves Season 2 Episode 6 Ending Explained: Is Sue a Tree Now?

In Raised By Wolves Season 2 Episode 6, Sol instructs Sue to steal the artifact Paul found on Kepler-22b and to help Marcus escape his captivity. She does so, reuniting the family unit. Their goal: to open the artifact and plant Sol’s tree with the seeds inside. Nothing works, though. So they decide to camp for the night.

Paul asks Sue to sing him a lullaby and it is her singing that opens the artifact. When Sue touches the seed inside, it melts into her body and drives her to dig into the soil. She screams and we cut to the next morning. A massive tree with a beating heart has grown where Sue struggled and Sue is gone. There is, however, fruit that looks an awful lot like brains. Marcus eats some and seems to immediately understand that Sue is the tree.

So…is Sue really the tree?

Yes, Sue is now a tree.

That’s not only what Raised By Wolves Season 2 Episode 6 suggests, but it’s what we can — spoilers — confirm.

Funnily enough, Sue almost wasn’t a tree! She almost died in Season 1! Aaron Guzikowski told Decider in 2020 that, “in an original version of it, she did die at the end of the first season. But, because of a lot of reasons — part of the reason was Niamh’s fantastic — we came to love the character and wanted to keep her in the show…”Beyond that, I think there were other story reasons I can’t get into that I started to figure out later on, that necessitated Sue’s continued existence on this planet.”

Guzikowski laughed when he said that last part and now we know why. Dude turned Sue into a tree.

Did Tempest’s Baby Die in Raised By Wolves Season 2 Episode 6?

  • 'Raised by Wolves' Canceled at HBO Max

  • If I Die, Blame TV’s Endless Midseason Breaks

  • Best TV Shows of March, 2022

Our other big burning question after this week’s Raised By Wolves? What in heaven’s name happened to Tempest’s baby. The teenager rebelled against Mother’s plans and went to the craggy shores of the acid sea to give birth to her child. Miraculously, mother and child made it through, only to meet tragedy. An alien creature from the acid sea comes ashore and steals Tempest’s baby. Even weirder? The alien seems to open its own chest up (??) to tuck the infant inside??

Did the alien eat the baby? What the heck just happened?

Without going into spoilers for next week’s episode, it seems that Tempest’s baby was merely kidnapped — not eaten — by the alien. But why and what does this mean? You’ll have to tune into next week’s episode of Raised By Wolves (also written by Aaron Guzikowski) to find out….
