Will Red Dead Redemption 2 be remastered?

Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto V is still the most profitable entertainment product of all time, selling strong nearly a decade after its release. Rockstar's GTA Trilogy: Definitive Edition, an outsourced remaster of the first three mainstream Grand Theft Auto games, is another matter. Rushed, plagued with bugs and glitches new and old, its poor reception has Rockstar quietly shelving similar remasters of the equally-beloved Red Dead Redemption series.

ScreenRant:

Rockstar leaker Tez2 stated as recently as July 4 that a new-gen Red Dead Redemption 2 update for PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series S/X would be coming soon, but it now looks like they have gone back on their prior statement. Videotech_ (via The Gamer) took to Twitter to share a recent screenshot of Tez2's latest comments surrounding the matter, which claimed that Red Dead Redemption 2's new-gen upgrades – along with Rockstar's plans for an enhanced version of the Rockstar Editor – have been canceled along with the previously reported remasters of GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption.

To fans of Rockstar's sweeping cowboy epic—myself included—this news is nothing short of heartbreaking. If I must, I'll keep playing RDR2 at a sluggish 30 frames per second… or maybe Rockstar could handle the remasters in-house, thus ensuring they don't release another set of buggy catastrophes. Food for thought.

An insider was claiming to know that Rockstar was working on a Red Dead Redemption remaster. However, we now have bad news about that

[Update, July 05, 2022]

Hey, it's been a while! We haven't updated this old-ass article for ages because... well, there wasn't much to report. Now we're back, and the occasion couldn't be worse: it looks like a potential Red Dead Redemption remaster was actually scrapped by Rockstar. Damn...

This sad news comes from famed Rockstar insider TezFunz2, so it is pretty legit. Check out all the details here, if you're ready to have your heart broken...

[Update, November 9]

According to a 4Chan post, the Read Dead Redemption Remaster will release in the second quarter of 2023. It's going to use the graphics and some mechanics of RDR2, the RDR1 versions of the WE & NA maps will be merged with the RDR2 version and lastly, everything will stay the same (story wise) except that some dialogue will now feature Arthur – which makes a lot of sense.

It's 4Chan, so as always, take this with your usual pinches of salt, guys, but everything above would definitely make sense. Let's see if we will soon get some official news on this.

[Original Article]

We wrote about it time, and time, and time again, because that's just how much we love Red Dead Redemption, and now here we are: Our first confirmation that the Red Dead Redemption remaster is coming. Who, what, when, and where? Well...: Chris from Rockstar Mag, inside leak, today and the where: France. Yes, I'm linking you to the article here, but unless tu parles francais, tu ne vas comprendere rien. Non, rien de rien.

So, what's the leak about? Well, it's mainly about GTA 6 about to turn into a clusterf*ck, but, on a sidenote, the leaker mentions the little – here paraphrased – tidbit that, yes, "the Red Dead Redemption remaster is already in development." According to our French colleagues over at Rockstar Mag, this remaster will get the same treatment as the GTA Trilogy remaster, meaning: Enhanced textures, enhanced looks, enhanced everything, but not re-inventing the wheel. Doesn't matter, because Red Dead Redemption is one of the greatest games ever, and any incentive to jump back into it is worthwhile.

There is no release date for when we will get this remastered classic, but seemingly, it will be due before the release of GTA 6. Of course, this also means that we can't expect any additions to Red Dead Redemption 2 or a Red Dead Redemption 3 anytime soon. Still, if you're looking for a reason to jump back into Red Dead Redemption 2, and you're gaming on PC, then you should jump into the Mexico expansion or the Undead Nightmare mod that some talented fans of the game have been working on.

You can watch the video below, where the claims are made, but, it's in French, so you may want to grab your old GCSE French to English dictionary to help translate.

Platforms aren't specified by the outlet, but Rockstar Magazine specifies not to expect a complete remake of Red Dead Redemption for this new remaster, but rather a visual overhaul and upgrade as with Rockstar's forthcoming GTA remastered trilogy.

Elsewhere in the same report, Rockstar Magazine claims things aren't looking so good for the oft-rumored GTA 6. The outlet claims that, after studio co-founder Dan Houser's departure back in early 2020, the game has effectively had to restart development, and is currently in a messy state. GTA 6 is a rumor that's been long-gestating for the video game industry at large, with numerous reports claiming various details about the unannounced game over the last two years.

As for the GTA remastered trilogy though, there's merely a few days to go until Rockstar's past entries are overhauled for a new generation. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition launches digitally across PC and consoles on November 11, before a physical version of the trilogy launches next month on December 6.

Will Red Dead Redemption 2 be remastered for PS5?

So, Red Dead isn't getting a remaster, Red Dead 2 isn't getting upgrades or DLC, and all of this is for a title years away, meaning Red Dead 3 is even further away. At the very least, Red Dead 2 deserves its own PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades.

Is Rockstar going to remaster Red Dead Redemption?

Platforms aren't specified by the outlet, but Rockstar Magazine specifies not to expect a complete remake of Red Dead Redemption for this new remaster, but rather a visual overhaul and upgrade as with Rockstar's forthcoming GTA remastered trilogy.
