Your nintendo account has already been associated with another epic games account.

Mom, we are same. And epic support-----UGH! Here are the things you need to know to figure this out. I just fixed it last night. This is long. Read it all first to make sure this is your situation and that you get what I'm laying out. I'm not a pro, just a mom. The initial account, unless you set it up from day 1, will be headless. That goes for every console. So your son's ps4 is likely still headless account and you are trying to link to the epic account you set up at Xmas for nintendo and it says you can't and that ps4 is linked to another epic account.

First thing is that you want that ps4 account to be the main one. That means you will have to abandon the one you set up with nintendo. First, make sure the email you want for your ps4 epic account is free. If you set up the nintendo account with it, you will have to first change your email on the epic account that is connected to the nintendo. https://www.epicgames.com/help/en-US/epic-accounts-c74/general-support-c79/how-do-i-change-the-email-on-my-epic-games-account-a3239

After you have changed email, you can unlink your nintendo from that account. It will give a bunch of warnings. What you are doing here is making sure nintendo is not linked to this account anymore. You are going to delete this account and then go back to epic and login thru your playstation creds to claim your headless account, set up your full epic account, and then link nintendo to that account.

After email is changed on the epic acct you set up w nintendo (if you needed to) and you have unlinked all consoles and such from that epic account, request account deletion.

Important: do not open fortnite on the switch until you finish this now, or you will have to go thru a whole other cycle to link.

Now you will go to epic page and login using your ps4 creds. You may need to clear your browser cache is it doesn't give you the list of all the portals that you can log in with. After you select ps4 and log in it will say they found your account and NOW you will be entering info to set up a full epic account that will link to ps4. You will have to pick a new display name because your usuals will be linked to the other accounts...why epic??? Why wouldn't this fill in with the display name of the headless account you are claiming??? I'm still a little rage-y about this whole thing. So set it up with your display name and email and login. There you go! There may be a verification code sent to enter. I did this for xbox, not sure if ps4 would be same. Now that you have your account set up with the ps4 as primary link you can link your nintendo switch here too and they will share. If you get a message that the nintendo can't link, it has gone to a headless account. My kid opened it in the middle of me figuring this all out, and so I had to do a cold login thru nintendo portal of epic and create a new account to claim the headless account, unlink it, request deletion, re-login to my primary account, and connect it. Seriously, this whole thing is bananas. I hope you could follow that and that it works for you.

This error occurs on Epic Games' website when trying to link a Nintendo Account to an Epic Games account that was previously linked to a different Nintendo Account.

Once you've linked your Nintendo Account to your Epic Games account, you will not be able to link a different Nintendo Account to it. It can only be relinked to the original Nintendo Account that was linked, and not a new one.

What to do

  1. Visit the Nintendo Account website and select Sign Out in the top-right corner to sign out of the current Nintendo Account.
  2. Sign in to the Nintendo Account website using your Nintendo Account that was originally linked to your Epic Games account.
  3. Return to the Epic Games Account Connections page and select Connect under Nintendo Switch to relink your Nintendo Account.

Situation not resolved

If you do not have access to the original Nintendo Account that you linked to your Epic Games account, you will not be able to link a different Nintendo Account. Please contact Epic Games support for further assistance.

Your nintendo account has already been associated with another epic games account.

Epic Games' account merge option was discontinued last year, and if you shared a Fortnite, Dauntless or Paladins account between different Switch consoles, maybe you are familiar with the implications.

Nintendo allows game sharing across multiple Switch consoles using the same Nintendo account, but downloadable games can only be played on one console at a time.

This leads to some unwelcome situations. For example, when another family member – (in my case, my son) – uses your Nintendo account to play Fortnite on his console, you won't be able to play any of your downloaded content on another Switch console.

Your nintendo account has already been associated with another epic games account.

The only solution I could think of was to sign in with my Epic Games account on my son’s Nintendo account. But first, I needed to unlink my Epic Games account from my Nintendo account. As I got to the disconnect option on the Epic Games website, there was a message that warned me that I was not going to be able to link my Epic Games account to a different Nintendo account. That warning alone got me back to square one, as you can imagine.

Before I gave up completely, I asked Epic Games if I could connect my account to a new Nintendo account. They replied that they could disconnect my account and remove a restriction that prevents you from linking it to another Nintendo account. Changing from one Nintendo account to another can only be done once within a 12-month period, so keep that in mind if you want to do this.

Your nintendo account has already been associated with another epic games account.

When Epic Games lifted the restriction and disconnected my account, I went ahead and disconnected my son’s Epic Account (which he didn’t use, by the way). I opened Fortnite on the Switch with my son’s Nintendo account and signed in using my Epic Games account. After a short verification with Epic Games, all my info and game progress were “transferred” to his Nintendo account – allowing me to finally game in peace.

In short, if you want to do the same, here’s the play by play.

  1. Contact Epic Games Support and ask about unlinking your Epic Games account to link it to a new Nintendo account. They will reach out in a couple of days via email.
  2. After confirming your account, they will remove the restriction and disconnect it from your Nintendo account.
  3. If the Nintendo account you want to use as the receiver of the “transfer” already has an Epic Games account linked, go ahead and unlink it in the Epic Games web site. If not, continue with the next step.
  4. Fire up your Nintendo switch and open Fortnite using the Nintendo account you want to “transfer” the Epic Games account to.
  5. Sign in with the Epic Games account you want to “transfer” and follow the instructions to confirm your account with Epic Games. Once that is done, Fortnite should sign in with your account.

At first, I was scared of losing all my content, which is I think is the main fear everyone with this issue has. This fear initially prevented me from attempting this, and in a way, I wanted to share my experience so that other people could benefit from it.

Now my son and I can play at the same time using different Switch consoles and I, for one, feel great because I can get back into the game.

Why does it say my Nintendo Account has already been associated with another Epic Games account?
