When we were children, we usually had no problem expressing and nurturing our talents. We tried new things, we failed and we succeeded. Our parents and teachers were there to encourage us along the way.

But somewhere along the line, many of us lose touch with our talents. We become afraid of failing or being embarrassed in front of others. We become self-conscious and start to believe that we're not good enough.

I have an older relative that could make any clothing item by hand. She even got into the Fashion Institute of Technology in her youth, but for some reason didn't go. While she is still happy and fashionable, I sometimes wonder – what if she had pursued her natural talent for fashion as she intended? If you met her for the first time today, you would think her fashion design skills were a “hidden talent”. Of course, there was nothing hidden about her fashion skills growing up.
