Hi all, I'm new and I have a question. I am female and have lost 40 lb in the span of about 1.5 years. I did it the right way, by eating healthy and exercising 3-4 times per week. I have 10 lb to go, but still have this roll of fat under breasts on stomach area that I'm not sure if it is skin, or fat - either way - I want it gone. the rest of abs are ok, of course still a bit pudgy but you can see muscle underneath, and if the upper roll was gone, I might even be happy with them. Any advice?

Thanks!

Hi there, congrats on the weight loss! You've worked hard. As for that roll, I think patience is the key. If it's skin, hopefully it will shrink as time goes by. Sometimes people end up with a little bit of loose skin permanently, but hopefully that won't be the case for you. If it is fat, there is nothing special you can do to make the fat disapear from that area. As you lose fat you lose it everywhere. It doesn't matter if you do special exercises for a body part. Fat still comes off of everywhere. So, as you continue to lose fat you WILL see loss there. It just takes time.

I guess I am concerned that it might be just loose skin, but seeing as I don't have loose skin anywhere else, body type is quite firm - even when I was 40 lb overweight it was still firm (but fat obviously), I'm hoping it is just stubborn fat that will come off eventually.

How do I find out if it is fat or loose skin? I know, stupid question, but I grab it and I just can't tell! lol.

most probably it is fat, i have some skin that covers some of 2 middle abs pack the other show up and are quiet ripped. it is not fat... body just needs to be used to new lower level. bodyweight training and stretching help alot. lately i've been doing dragon flags, one leg sit ups, one hand push ups and one hand pull ups and thinking to start ring training. those are the best exercises you can ever do and although they are quiet hard to achieve incorporating them in your program will help alot even just trying them and not succeding. well here is also one of the best articles i came across on loose skin ----quote Loose Skin Blues by Tom Venuto If you're extremely overweight or if you've been extremely overweight in the past, then you know that getting rid of excess weight is only one of the challenges you face. Once the fat is gone, you are often confronted with an equally frustrating cosmetic problem; Loose skin. There are 12 things you should know about loose skin after very large weight losses: 1. Skin is incredibly elastic. Just look at what women go through during pregnancy. Skin has the ability to expand and contract to a remarkable degree. 2. Elasticity of skin tends to decrease with age. Wrinkling and loss of elasticity is partly the consequence of aging (genetic factors) and also a result of environmental factors such as oxidative stress, excessive sun exposure, and nutritional deficiency. The environmental parts you can , the genetics and age part, you cannot. Advice: Get moving and change the things you have control over... Be realistic and don't worry about those things you don't have control over. 3. How much your skin will return to its former tautness depends partly on age.The older you get, the more an extremely large weight loss can leave loose skin that will not return to normal 4. How long you carry extra weight has a lot to do with how much the skin will become taut after the weight loss: For example, compare a 9 month pregnancy with 9 years carrying 100 excess pounds. 5. How much weight was carried has a lot to do with how much the skin will resume a tight appearance. Your skin can only be stretched so much and be expected to "snap back" one hundred percent. 6. How fast the weight was gained also has a lot to do with how much the skin will resume a tight appearance. Your skin can only be stretched so quickly and be expected to "snap back." 7. How fast weight is lost also has a lot to do with how much the skin will tighten up. Rapid weight loss doesn't allow the skin time to slowly resume to normal. (yet another reason to lose fat slowly; 1 to 2 pounds per week, 3 pounds at the most if you have a lot of weight to lose, and even then, only if you are measuring body fat and you’re certain it's fat you’re losing, not lean tissue). 8. There are exceptions to all of the above; i.e, people who gained and then lost incredible amounts of weight quickly at age 50 or 60, and their skin returned 100% to normal.

9. There are many creams advertised as having the ability to restore the tightness of your skin. None work â€â€

you are lucky to have them, here in nyc it is out of the way i could put some in studio so i got to go to chelsea piers and pay around $20 for 90min... not that bad since the instructors are good.

but now problem is that i trained very hard and recovery isn't following... is glutamine good? i'm not very much into supplementing but i need to increase recovery time

there's a gymnastics / rings forum at ww.ringtraining.com which is excellent...they mostly train 4 - 5 days a week but not to failure or very rarely...depending on wehat your training for i sippose...if for size/strength than failure may be an option but if actually trying to perfect the moves than failure is not the way to go...check out that forum...maybe cycle hard and medium/easy days so yuo only have to recover from 2 days a week instead of 3, 4 or more

I understand where you are coming from when you talk about having a fat roll there. I too have that problem on top of fat everywhere else. Let me know what you find out.

Hi there A stubborn roll of fat beneath the breasts is apparently an indicator of the health of your liver. Look into Liver cleansing diets. I hope it helps.
