Pollen allergy is the most common allergy in Germany, with about 25 % of the population suffering from the allergy, also known as hay fever. The symptoms can range from mild to severe. The most effective protection is to avoid allergens, but this is easier said than done. But in your bedroom, there are a few things you can do to show pollen the door, or rather the window.
If you live in an urban area, you should air your bedroom in the morning when the pollen count is normally at its lowest. In rural areas, you should air until midnight. You can also use the time during and after a rain shower.
Wash your bedding regularly, and once a week during “your” pollen’s high season. Shake out your pillow and duvet every morning and let your mattress dry.
Have a shower and wash out the pollen from your hair before going to bed. Do not change your clothes in the bedroom and do not leave the clothes you wore throughout the day in the bedroom, as this will bring pollen near to your bed. The best time for vacuum cleaning is just before you go to bed. People with allergies are particularly recommended to get a vacuum cleaner with HEPA filter.
Since people with pollen allergies wash their duvet more frequently, we recommend a duvet from our fibre collections, which can be washed at higher temperatures than a down duvet.
Vital Plus is the extremely hard-wearing duvet filled with Trevira Superloft Plus continuous hollow fibres. You can wash Vital Plus at 60°C and put it in the tumble dryer. Your duvet and pillow will keep their shape for many years and stay as snuggly and soft and drape around your body as on the first day.
After pollen and house dust mite allergies, the third most common allergy in Germany affects about 10 % of people who own animals. The symptoms are very similar to those of hay fever, which is why the strategies to avoid the allergens are also similar.
Do not allow your pets on your bed, particularly if you are allergic to cat or dog hair.
We advise people suffering from a pet allergy to get a fibre duvet, because duvets filled with down, sheep’s wool, camel hair or other animal fibres could also lead to allergic reactions in sensitive people.
Avoid having carpets, rugs or upholstered furniture in your bedroom. You should regularly vacuum and mop the floor. By the way, regularly repainting your bedroom or changing the wallpaper might also help.
Extend the consistent avoidance of pet hair to your entire bedroom: no cowhide rugs, no furs in the wardrobe, and don’t forget to store your angora scarf somewhere else.
If you suffer from pet hair allergy, our fibre duvets are just perfect for you because they are free of any animal fibres, What’s more, they are, of course, easy to care for, washable and tumble dryer safe. To all those with pet hair allergy who do not want to miss the soft and airy feeling of natural down, we recommend the Famous duvet. Due to its hydrophilic DryFill microfibre fleece filling, the Famous duvet is incredibly soft to the touch making it confusingly similar to natural down. Another plus is that Famous is our best fibre duvet. In tests of the Hohenstein Institute, it achieved the best comfort mark of 1.0 both in the warm and in the cold heat range – as first and only fibre duvet in the world.
