The Miami Dolphins were finally brought back to Earth last weekend, suffering a 34-3 thrashing at the hands of the Tennessee Titans. The loss knocked them out of playoff contention at 8-8, as it ended a seven-game winning streak that was turning into a turnaround the likes of which the NFL has never seen. Even with the loss, it was a terrific bounceback for the Dolphins, who were 1-7 earlier this season.

Their opponents on Sunday are the New England Patriots, a familiar face playing for a familiar place: First in the AFC East. The 10-6 Patriots are locked into the playoffs, but they can win the East with a win and a Bills loss to the Jets. However, there’s not much use in postulating Patriots scenarios. They can end up anywhere from first in the AFC to seventh, depending on how things shake out. No playoff team will be scoreboard watching more than New England on Sunday, as they try to play themselves into a better spot.

The Dolphins, of course, have always been an issue for Bill Belichick. They tend to give the Pats issues, and Sunday would be a bad time for that. Losing throws a lot of things up in the air for New England, as they try to exert as much control as possible over their fate. Mac Jones has been exactly what the Patriots have needed him to be for most of the year, and that has to continue against an opportunistic Dolphins team with a surprising secondary.

The Patriots, of course, want to get back to the top of the division after the Bills won the East last year. New England was particularly conservative among its players in terms of sitting out due to COVID-19 in 2020, so a return to the top would be a big confidence booster heading into the playoffs. If the Patriots lose to the Dolphins Sunday, however, they’ll be looking around the league for help to determine their Wild Card matchup.

Here’s what you need to know to watch Patriots vs. Dolphins this Sunday, including kickoff time, TV channels, and the full Week 18 NFL schedule.
