If you want to move to a city that's better for your budget — or maybe just to a different housing complex in your current city — you need to compare all of the apartments for rent. Comparing the cost of
apartments from city to city, however, is a tedious process that involves tons of Google searching and number-crunching. For this reason, GOBankingRates conducted a study of what the average one-bedroom apartment costs in 50 major US cities. This study looked at various factors including the median rent for a one-bedroom
apartment, the average square footage, the cost of basic monthly utilities, and each city's walkability score, which is based on a scale from 0 to 100. To provide the most comprehensive apartment guide to cities across the country, GOBankingRates also identified the percentage of apartments for rent in each city that have the following amenities: dishwashers, washer-dryers, a pool, fitness-center access, pet-friendly units, and parking. $850 Newark is among the 20 cities with the lowest median rent for a one-bedroom apartment. Getting around on foot in Newark isn't too bad either; this city is the No. 4 most walkable city. Apartments with a dishwasher:
40% Shutterstock / akphotoc Median rent for 1-bedroom apartment: $995 The median rent for Anchorage apartments is just under $1,000 a month. But apartments in Anchorage rank third highest in the cost of utilities. Unsurprisingly, Anchorage apartments for rent aren't big on pools. Apartments with a dishwasher: 29%
Shutterstock Median rent for 1-bedroom apartment: $1,850 The average rent for Pittsburgh apartments increased by over $300 in the past seven years, from $627 in July 2009 to $958
in February 2016, according to RentJungle.com. And the most expensive apartments for rent in Pittsburgh are in Squirrel Hill North, Strip District, and South Side Slopes. Median rent for 1-bedroom apartment: $795 The median rent for one-bedroom apartments in Kansas City is lower than the national average, ranking in the top 20 of cities with the cheapest median rent for one-bedroom apartments. The cost of utilities
for Kansas City apartments runs high at $189.08 a month, however, behind only Detroit, Honolulu, and Anchorage. $2,172 One-bedroom Washington, D.C., apartments are on the expensive side, with the city's median rent ranking as the fourth highest on this list. But the cost of basic utilities is lower in Denver than in most cities on the list. To save money on housing in Seattle, Rent Jungle advises you stay away from apartments for rent in Phinney Ridge, Eastlake, and Green Lake. The median rent of $2,200 makes New York the third-most expensive city by this metric. However, you might find affordable apartments in New York in cheaper areas such as Williams Bridge, Rent Jungle reports. Though the Big Apple is the most walkable city, apartments in New York tend to skimp on amenities — especially when it comes to pools, pets, and parking. A studio apartment might be anywhere from 350 to 600 square feet, a 1-bedroom is usually between 550 and 1,000 square feet, a 2-bedroom is about 1,000 square feet and up, and a 3-bedroom will be approximately 1,200 square feet and up.
Is 750 square feet small for an apartment?“Small” (the largest category, space-wise) is anything between 800 and 1,000 square feet. The smallest division is “Teeny-Tiny,” for anything 400 square feet and under.
Is a 1200 square foot apartment small?1200 Square Feet:
You may get a spacious living room as well as three bedrooms apartments and two bathrooms in a 1200 square feet apartment. This offers plenty of living space for a family without feeling cramped.
Is 1100 square feet a big apartment?1100 sq ft
A large two-bedroom apartment or a small three-bedroom house. Many homes in San Diego are around this size. If its three bedrooms it might be tight, or you might not have a dinning room.
