Baby keeps rolling over in sleep and waking up Reddit

Does anyone have any tips? Do I let him figure it out on his own? Will it pass?

Happened a bit when he was 4 months but didn’t last long. Has always slept on his back, but now seems like he is trying to get comfy on his side and then rolls over and wakes up screaming. He also knows how to roll front to back but still gets very upset even when he flips back to his back.

Happens at bedtime and naps. Help!

Any update on how long this took you? We’re on day 10 and I’m losing my mind.

level 2

It took a couple of weeks. I hope it’s going ok for you now

We are going through this right now. Any update on how it’s going? Our little one will wake up for at least an hour screaming and he had slept through the night 9 nights in a row. The whole rolling all around the crib thing has thrown him (and us) off. I’m not sure why we have a hard time being consistent while sleep training when he’s on his tummy. I guess it really shouldn’t be any different than what we were doing before?

level 2

In our case he eventually found his groove on his tummy and slept pretty well but it took about 2-3 weeks of rolling him back. After a while I just stopped rolling him back and tried to settle him on his tummy, didnt work all the time but eventually he just got it. We still have times where he wakes up on his tummy screaming even though he can roll over. Our boy wriggles around so much at night! I hope it gets a little better for you, it is not an easy one for either of you!

Nothing you can do about it, imo. Mine did the same, but I let her figure it out. Eventually, she got used to sleeping on stomach and is a happy sleeper now.

level 2

How long did it take her to figure it out?

level 1

Mine also started doing this at 7 months. Took about a week and a half before he stopped getting mad about it. He was also v angry even when I flipped him back over. I let him fuss for a bit before the explosion, figuring he will either get used to it or flip himself over.

8 months now - flip flops all over the place and sleeps sooo well now that he can get himself into new comfy positions so easily!

level 2

Phew this is reassuring, thanks heaps!!!

Hell get used to it! Does he take a pacifier? We would go in and soothe my LO while she was on her belly, not flip her back to her back. I just rubbed her back and tried to get her to take a pacifier to fall back asleep. Took about 2 nights, second night we let her cry it out when she first flipped and she fell asleep after about 10 minutes. Now she sleeps on her belly every night!

level 2

He has grown out of his pacifier, but I might give it a go. I have tried rubbing his back too but he screams either way,I’ll give it another go tonight! Thankyou for your tips! I hope he finds a comfy position soon

level 1

Mine was doing that too for a little while, and then all of a sudden one day my husband got her to go to sleep (and stay asleep) on her tummy. I’m not sure if there’s much you can do other than make sure he has time to practice in the day. I had to regress to using the pacifier at night again because it was the only thing to calm mine down… hopefully your little guy can learn to get comfy on his tummy soon! Mine started sleeping much better after that

level 2

Thankyou! We will keep the pacifier in the amo kit for tonight!

Omg this is my boy right now except he's 4.5 months. If he's deep asleep enough he will roll and be happy, but if he's not, he's instantly awake and mad about it. I feel you

level 2

Yes!!! Exactly the same!! Hope it passes for you soon

level 1

Poor you! During wake time I'd suggest trying to put him on his tummy a bunch to encourage him to practice rolling front to back. The more comfortable he gets rolling (or the more comfortable he gets on his tummy), the more likely it won't bother him while he's sleeping.

level 2

Thankyou! He loves being on his tummy while playing and rolls back to front/front to back all the time during the day. I’m hoping he will just get use to it?

How do I stop my baby rolling over in sleep and wake up?

What to do if rolling over wakes them up.
putting the infant to sleep in a cool, dark, quiet room..
using a white noise machine or shushing the infant back to sleep..
establishing a predictable bedtime routine..
putting the infant to bed at the same time each night..

Why does my baby keep rolling over in sleep?

As for why it happens during naps and at night, it's often pretty similar to why adults change positions while sleeping, too — to get comfortable. After your baby falls asleep they may still find themselves rolling around and waking up because they're in an uncomfortable position.

What do you do when baby rolls in crib and wakes up?

The child has just started rolling and it is only occasionally disrupting sleep. Put baby down in the usual position (so on back for a back sleeper, tummy for a tummy sleeper) and leave. If baby rolls over and is upset, always make sure to wait a minimum of 10-15 minutes before deciding if an intervention is required.

Should I worry about my baby rolling over at night?

Infants are able to roll over as soon as their neck and core are strong enough. For many babies, this happens between 2-4 months. Whether your baby rolls over early, late, or “right on time,” rolling is not something to be scared of! It's a natural part of your baby's development.
