Since 1996, the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion has brought big-ticket musicians to northern New England. Located near Lake Winnipesaukee in Gilford, New Hampshire, the venue, originally named Meadowbrook Farm, was an outgrowth of informal concerts thrown on the property by the family who owned it. Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion has since grown to become a 9,000-capacity, two-stage amphitheater.

We arrived 45 minutes prior to the show, thinking this was plenty of time to park and get to our reserved seats. There was a mile-long dirt road into the venue, which was bumper to bumper traffic moving at a snail's pace. It took us an hour to park, even though we purchased "premium" parking ($20). (We didn't have a choice about this, because we had not pre-purchased a parking pass online.) We saw people who had been in the standard parking line across from us walking into the venue while we were still in line to park. They finally directed us to park on the side of the road in the bushes - clearly they had run out of parking. The show started exactly on time - we started hearing it in the car, long before we could get parked. This was especially frustrating because the opening band was the one we had come to see. The show could have easily been delayed, since parking was such a nightmare (all the attendants had walkie talkies). I felt really sorry for the line of cars a mile long behind us.
When we finally got to our seats (20 minutes into the concert), the sound of the music was pretty muddy. I don't know if it was the sound system or acoustics, but it was really hard to hear the words. The crowd was loud so that might have been part of it too. The sound was better on quieter songs, oddly enough.
Concessions are the usual outrageous prices ($7 for a 12 oz. draft beer; $12 for a 24 oz.). People came early and tailgated outside, which I would do if I ever go again. Be cautious, though, because bathrooms are also at a minimum. The bathroom line for the women's room took about 30 minutes to get through. They could easily provide more bathrooms, because
there is lots of space.
Really, this was one of those places which clearly is trying to wring every penny out of their customers, while giving back as little as possible. This irks me to no end, since they are raking in tons of money through the over-priced concessions. Come on, Meadowbrook, make some effort!
