Do you have to buy fuel for the Jetpack in jailbreak?

Overview

The Jetpack is a transportation item added to Jailbreak in the Jetpack Update. It runs on limited fuel that players can refill for free when on the ground. There is also an additional option of using Rocket Fuel to fly for

25 Robux by using Rocket Fuel. With that option, the colors of the flames that are emitted by the Jetpack will be purple, and the player will fly with improved speed, height, and length of the Jetpack's flight duration. To equip it, simply touch the Jetpack located atop the tallest building in Crater City, which is next to the Badger.

When using the Jetpack, players can fly high into the air by double jump and holding the jump button, making it useful and convenient for escaping confrontations. If there is fuel left, the jetpack will allow its wearers to descend slowly, preventing fall damage - descending uses less fuel than ascension does. It is recommended to tap-fly (e.g. tap the spacebar or jump button) rather than simply holding down the jump button. Players should avoid shutting down the jetpack, as encountering it while in mid-air will make the player fall and take fall damage. As of the Balance Update, whenever the fuel runs out, there is a 15-second delay to refuel. The Jetpack's tank size has also been decreased, causing the fuel meter to deplete faster.

Before July 2020, Criminals can use the Jetpack to fly away after they have been hit by the police's taser but as of the July 2020 update, the police taser disables the jetpack.

The Jetpack is activated by jumping twice and holding the spacebar.

On poor connections, the Jetpack may cause the player to violently ragdoll on landing, which can cause problems if one is using it if they are experiencing internet connection problems. Also on some devices like Chromebooks, the Jetpack does not work, therefore it is not recommended to buy it if you are on a Chromebook.

Tips and Tricks

Criminals

The Jetpack is a criminal's best bet for evading police, therefore provided you have enough fuel, fly as high as possible, then skydive to somewhere safe. However, if you want to show your skill more, jetpack up to a higher building or a bit further from the police, then eliminate them. Jetpack if they get too close and flying over them is likely to confuse the police, however, do not do this if the police have mobile or tap arrest enabled as this will guarantee you will be arrested. As of the July 12th, 2020 update, try to stay a large distance away from Police since tasers disable the Jetpack. (It's not recommended to "spam using" it especially police are using aerial vehicles since landing is required for refueling the jetpack, and it takes a decent amounts of time to refuel the jetpack.)

Police

It is useful for a team of police to have a jetpack as criminals wouldn't expect the police to fly after them. A good combination is to have your Police friend have a helicopter searchlight on the fleeing criminal.

If criminals are shooting from high places, jetpack higher, then skydive and activate your parachute behind them. At this point, players can equip cuffs and arrest the criminal. Stealth is the key.

Criminals tend to fly away when they are on low health, so use a gun to shoot them to lower health so they have to eat a donut to keep alive.

This is the only tool that is not equipped by pressing a hotkey but by simply moving towards it.
When you descend, you will lose a reduced amount of fuel, much less than when you ascend.
You cannot fly while being ragdolled. This wasn't always the case, as before criminals could use the jetpack while tased, and players can use the jetpack when they ragdoll.
Fewer flame particles come out of the turbines if your graphics quality is low. As an opposite, if your graphics quality is high, then it will be a constant flame. This is the same with all particles except confetti.
Your amount of remaining fuel will save from game to game. Before this, you could buy rocket fuel, and just before it ran out you could leave the game and it would fill up for free. This meant you could have infinite rocket fuel if you performed the glitch. It was patched soon after the update came out to stop players obtaining Robux items for free.
As of the Cybertruck update, the Jetpack was nerfed to provide fair use for all players on all teams. Previously, if a player flew too high altitudes and ran out of fuel, they were able to refuel their Jetpacks mid-air in order to avoid an encounter with the opposing team. Badimo has now modified the Jetpack to prevent players from refueling their Jetpacks mid-air. After the Cybertruck update, if a player attempts to refuel their jetpack mid-air, they will receive an alert message saying, "Land before refueling!" In order to refuel, a player must land on the ground, on a vehicle, or on a building.
- In addition, Badimo has disabled use of the Jetpack in, on, or near the Museum. This is because, previously, players who were equipped with the Jetpack were able to fly out of the Museum, avoiding the intended escape path, and also leaving their partner stranded. After the nerfing, if a player attempts to activate their jetpack in, on, or near the museum, the jetpack will not allow them to gain altitude. Instead, the GUI will finish its animation, but then will quickly close up, as if the player just landed. This applies to the Prison too.
As of the Live Update of April 4, 2020, the jetpack no longer spawns at the Airport watchtower.
If you are on a lower-end device, the Jetpack can sometimes unexpectedly fling you up and deal you damage.
On May 3rd 2020, the Jetpack could not be used in the Jewelry Store, Bank, and Power Plant.
- On May 17th, this feature was added back to the game due to popular requests. However, players could still not use the Jetpack in the Bank.
- On June 7th, the Jetpack can now be used in the Bank.
- However, using the Jetpack in the Power Plant is removed again in the Power Plant Revamp Update, as well as the Bank in the Balance Update. Both reasons are unknown.
- The use of the Jetpack was added back to the Power Plant due to complaints.
- Some time afterwards, the use of the Jetpack was also added back to the Bank.
- Now, players are free to use the Jetpack in the Jewelry Store, Bank and Power Plant. The only restriction is that the Jetpack cannot be used on the Jewelry Store's roof.
Compared to the Jetpack Trailer, the fuel particle is slightly different. The current fuel contains large particles and the trailer is tiny particles and translucent.
The Jetpack has had the most nerfs in the game, out of all vehicles, robberies and items.
When the Jetpack was initially released, the Rocket Fuel purchase screen says that it costs 23 Robux, but the actual fuel costed 25 Robux. This was fixed later on in the update.
When performing the invisible glitch, the Jetpack will still be visible.
As of the Balance update, the Jetpack got nerfed more. Players need to wait 15 seconds to refuel, they cannot use their Jetpack for a brief period of time after being ejected from their vehicle by police, and the tank size was decreased.
- The cool-down was originally announced as 10 seconds by Badimo, however when the update came, the cooldown is 15 seconds.

When Badimo made an official announcement on twitter about the Jetpack nerf, they divided the Jailbreak community. Some praised the decision to finally nerf the Jetpack definitely, while others criticized the decision saying that it would mainly affect the Criminal team.
As of the Return of 5 Days of Vehicles update, using the Jetpack no longer removes the Duffel Bag or Cargo Plane crate.
On April 2, 2022 (Jailbreak 5 Year Anniversary Update), the location of the Jetpack changed from the Jetpack Island to on top of the tallest building in Crater City. The building is straight down the road from the Casino. There is a ladder to get on top of the building.
