Actually, while there was the enjoyment of the challenge, another reason why I turned the trials on was so that I could get some of those special shipments more frequently. It was great to collecting fade-touched materials every so often without having to keep harvesting them like I did in my first playthrough. It's just that since I heard some folks say the game gets pretty easy on nightmare mode with trials on when you get past level 15, I was wondering what did they do to minimize health loss. Show
To be honest, maybe it's not so much of a problem now. To be frank, I've now grown used to not healing myself or any of my party members with potions so I don't think the lack of potions is as problematic for me anymore. I got my Inquisitor's reaver specs unlocked, so I don't have to worry about healing myself anymore (and having Cass abuse Horn of Valor for its guard producing abilities works wonders). It's more about trying to get as much life-draining and heal-on-kill stuff for my other party members like Varric. I agree that while part of the thrill does come from figuring out how to overcome difficulty, I feel there's a difference between overcoming a challenging foe and overcoming something tedious. Just earlier I lost two times against a group of Venatori and a giant in a region of the Western Approach. After that, I decided to change my approach and think more tactically, and I came out victorious. That's a challenge I can go for any day. It's different when you have spellcasters constantly churning out barriers faster than one can dispel since I'm working way more against so little. I hope I'm not coming off as ranting here, just putting forth how I make the distinction between something challenging and something that's tedious. Trials are a gameplay feature in Dragon Age: Inquisition, available with the Trespasser DLC. They allow the player to modify some game behaviour by either limiting/weakening the party or strengthening enemies. Having one or more trials enabled will increase the chance of earning special rewards, which can be collected from the special shipments chest in Haven, Skyhold, or the Winter Palace (depending on the stage of the game). Active trials can be configured under "Options" in the Hero menu at any point during the game. They can also be activated with the "Custom" difficulty option during hero creation for a new game. Note: All rewards are randomly-issued upon opening the Special Shipments chest. Therefore, they can be effectively shuffled by simply saving in front of the chest and reloading the game until it yields the desired reward(s). The chest can load multiple rewards at once, which are kept until the chest is opened and the rewards are claimed. Common rewards[]
