When Cell is telling Piccolo his origin's story he states that King Cold and Frieza's cells were obtained after Trunks kills them in DB:Kai. In the manga, he doesn't specifically say that Trunks kills them but Toriyama shows a panel of them dying the same way. Show Now this leads to a problem. If a trunks did go back in Cell's timeline (the timeline in which he kills Trunks and uses his time machine to go back), why do the events still unfold exactly the same in Trunk's timeline? We have hints of this from:
So from this, it seems like the events of Future Trunks timeline does unfold the same with in Cell's timeline. This leads to another problem. Many fans are of the belief that Trunks statement of him being able to fight the androids fairly well to mean that they were weaker in his timeline. However, Imperfect Cell has never met the androids of this world and only has his androids power to use as a reference point to how strong they would be. He states that ONLY Piccolo would be able to fight the androids (shooting down Trunk's claim of him being able to fight fairly well) and after fleeing that battle even states that he will need to absorb people to increase his strength past 17 and 18. Other things that shoots down Trunk's claim include:
"I know exactly what I am up against Frieza, and let me tell you, I am not worried. Make no mistake, I'm going to finish you once and for all." "I'm sensing another huge power level and… and this one makes Frieza seem like nothing." "Another Super Saiyan?" (フリーザを一いっ刀とう両りょう断だん!!もう一ひと人りの超スーパーサイヤ人じん Furīza o Ittō Ryōdan!! Mō Hitori no Sūpā Saiya-jin, lit. "Freeza Halved By a Single Blow!! Another Super Saiyan") is the third episode of the Trunks Saga and the one hundred twentieth overall episode in the uncut Dragon Ball Z series. This episode first aired in Japan on December 11, 1991. Its original American airdate was September 6, 2000. SummaryThe mysterious youth counters an arm cannon blast The mysterious youth confronts Frieza, King Cold and their soldiers. Frieza and King Cold laugh thinking the stranger will be no trouble at all. The soldiers attack the stranger but get sliced up by his sword. More soldiers charge at the boy but they are easily handled. One of the soldiers survives the attack and starts backing away in fear. Frieza responds by coldly calling him a coward and, as the soldier begs for his commander's mercy, Frieza impales him with his hand, thus killing him. The stranger announces that he knows Goku, and also that he is a Super Saiyan himself. Frieza and King Cold initially express shock, but then Frieza laughs it off, thinking the boy was bluffing. Undaunted, the boy then simply starts to power up and transform, with Frieza realizing with fear and denial the boy was indeed not bluffing about his claim. He transforms into a Super Saiyan as Frieza looks on and trembles with fear. The Dragon Team wonder if it is Goku they are sensing, although Vegeta secretly realized that it couldn't have been Goku due to his gaining a power increase at such a speed that he reasoned to be impossible even for a Super Saiyan. The mysterious youth kills Frieza Frieza tries 4 times to defeat the stranger, each time proving that his attempts are futile. He fires a Supernova at the stranger with ten times the amount of power of the Death Ball that he used to destroy Namek. The stranger catches it without trouble. At the youth's mocking, Frieza detonates the Supernova. Thinking the stranger is dead, King Cold briefly mocks Frieza for taking four attacks to kill the boy, with Frieza protesting that he was just warming up. However, the man calls out to Frieza, firing off a Burning Attack. The two tyrants narrowly avoid the attack with Frieza taking to the air, but as Frieza suddenly becomes aware of the nearness of the mysterious youth, the youth slices Frieza vertically in half. King Cold stares in shock while Frieza reaches his end. Major Events

Can King Cold beat Trunks? We saw that he was finished by Trunks with an energy blast so that means Trunks is far stronger than King Cold second form, so had he transformed into a third form I'd say Trunks would have to use more than an energy blast to defeat him but he'd still barely put up a fight next in his final form I'd hesitate to say he ...
Who defeated King Cold in Dragon Ball Z?After attempting to attack Trunks with his own sword, Trunks promptly killed King Cold, just as easily as he'd killed his son.
What happened to King Cold in DBZ?He asks Cooler to fight for him, but Cooler proceeds to fire a Death Beam through Cold's chest, killing him and noting that this is the end of "Great King Cold".
Who defeats Frieza and King Cold?Frieza and King Cold had gotten a head start on Goku on their way to Earth during their search for him (even though in future Trunk's timeline, Goku used instant transmission to get back to Earth and was the one who killed Frieza and King Cold 2 years before Trunks would eventually be born.)
