Elden ring golden parry vs buckler parry

I did a little testing and it really does not seem like the buckler + golden parry is any better than that ash of war on any other small shield. With this in mind, which skill would be best for a dedicated parry tool in the off-hand to swap to for invasions?

Elden ring golden parry vs buckler parry

level 1

buckler parry seems to turn into small shield parry on using these, atleast according to the animation.

the range is arguably a very big deal though, and makes golden parry godlike in terms of getting consistent parries

level 2

i absolutely love it. im running dual greatswords and switching to the golden parry buckler for the r1 spammers. such satisfaction

level 2

yes, that is correct. 'buckler parry' is a skill inherent to the buckler only when no ashen war is applied to it. there's no way to transfer the 'buckler parry' skill to any other shield.

Not as far as I know. It seems to have less frames, but more range. It has quite a bit of range.

Oh yeah. So that's all it has basically? I also prefer a curved sword or dagger parry over the golden one.. i can get those in pve/pvp consistently.

Honestly Storm Wall parry seems comfier to me than regular parry and even buckler parry. I'm not sure why. I tried and tried and tried with Buckler Parry on Godrick Soldiers and just couldn't get it to work consistently. I don't like it... I can consistently land Storm Wall parries. It feels so smooth.

Storm Wall parry

I should give that one another go. Just thought it was for parrying / deflecting arrows and physical projectiles.

Its a mid shield parry with longer active frames and a larger parry range. You can get attacks to run into it for example.

Not necessarily better just different.

GreatGilgamesh 6 months ago#7

Yeah the point of Golden Parry is that it extends the parry range so you don't have to necessarily parry the "hands" (which is normally the recommended way to parry). Some people seem to be of the opinion that it has different frames to a normal medium shield parry but I think the jury is out on that.

CJ100 6 months ago#8

I think it has more to do with a visual cue for when the active frames are happening, medium shields don't really have the animation in time with the parry frames, daggers and buckler are closer with their animation feedback.

The one I recommend using which is the best Shield for Parrying in Elden Ring is the Buckler. As a base Shield with no added effects, the Buckler has about 12 active parry frames. That means it will parry any attack in its 12 frames. Active Parry Frames are the number of Frames that a Shield will parry any attack.
