  1. Associative processing is when one can do two or more associative things at a time
  • An example would be driving and talking at the same time

     2. Cognitive processing is when one can do one cognitive activity at a time

  • Speaking is a cognitive activity for a student with a learning disability
  • There are two lessons that the group learns when telling a story
  1. The group is very quick to turn in a person after being learning disabled for an hour

2.  It’s difficult to talk with a learning disability

  • Being the class clown is typical of a student with a learning disability
  • There’s a problem with storage and retrieval in a student with a learning disability
  • Give children the gift of time
  • Don’t use rhetorical questions with children

  1. An auditory learner has to hear the instructions as opposed to reading it

2.  Students have their textbooks on audiotapes so they can understand it better rather than reading it

Fairness:

  • Equal and fair isn’t the same thing
  • Fairness is not everyone getting the same thing
  • Fairness means everyone gets what he or she needs
  • In order to be fair the teacher has to treat the student with a learning disability differently
  • The real challenge is educating those who don’t have a learning disability

What does it feel like to have a learning disability?

Someone with a learning disability may have difficulty reading, writing, spelling, reasoning, recalling, or organizing. LDs cannot be cured or fixed. However, with the right support and intervention, people with LDs can succeed in school and go on to successful careers.

How difficult is it to can?

Canning is Easier than You Think Canning is not difficult, at least not in the sense of needing a special skill set. When it gets right down to it, canning is simply a matter of immersing hot jars into boiling water long enough to suck out all the air, thereby sealing the jars. That's it!
