So more information has come out regarding this author and yeah. No. I don’t think I’ll be reading anything else by Dana Isaly. But if you want to, go ahead. But be aware that what you’re reading may have original source material elsewhere, even if it’s not in written form.

And some people who have sided with DI are saying that Eros’ trauma isn’t valid - fuck those people. If your goal was to alienate friends and readers, 👏🏻 hats off to you. It worked.

This was so much fun! I loved how he was a gamer and she was a reporter coming to do a story on him. Things get heated and they end up spending all night together. Their conversations were great (there was actually some depth to their conversations in such a short amount of pages) and I loved their chemistry! I do think it was weird that we got one random chapter from someone else's POV while they were at the club, and the ending seemed really rushed, but overall this was a really fun novella!

Now I love BDSM and have read my fair share of it. But this one...was not it for me. The kink was all over the place. There's degradation kink, which has to be written really well for me to enjoy it, and it really wasn't pulled off well in this one for me. Jack kept referring to Quinlan as "dog" and well...yeah...no. There's spanking, some sirs and safe words thrown in, and a completely out of the place "daddy" that pops up once and that's it. Really, it kind of read all over the place. I don't expect a lot of plot in erotica, so that certainly didn't surprise me here. You get enough plot to set up the sex, which is fine by me. But the erotica just didn't click for me. There was some story that tried to be interwoven into it, but it didn't really fit. It should have been a longer novella for that. As it was, it just felt slapped in. The epilogue was just...strange. They literally go from o to 60 in less than 90 pages. I'm all for erotica and a HFN, so the epilogue just added a bit of cheese for me.

All in all, it was ok but certainly nothing I'd come back to or remember.

This is either going to really work for you, or really… not work for you. I’m definitely on the ‘not’ side. This book has been so hyped lately so when I saw it was available on audio I was here for it. Unfortunately, the whole story was just not my kind of read. I was expecting like, a darker Jessa Kane type of book, but it wasn’t that. I’m honestly not sure what this was. If it worked for you that’s awesome and I’m not here to tell anyone not to read it, but yeah… no. Not for me.

Side note about the audio: The narrator was fantastic but the actual quality of the audiobook wasn’t great, especially at the beginning.

This had EXTREME fanfiction/wattpad vibes. Heroine had insufferable pick-me girl energy. BUT, it's a super short novella, so you really have nothing to lose by giving it a shot. If you're curious, then read it. Why not. I don't care to dissuade anyone from reading this, just sharing my opinion.

The best way to describe my issue with this novella is that it reads like a sixteen year old girl's fantasy. For example, we have the classic nightclub scene. Our hero, Jack, takes our heroine, Quin, out to his nightclub to meet The Boys and, upon arrival, they're greeted by his friend who says ”she's hot, bro" to Jack and then stoops down and picks Quin up in his arms, by way of greeting. (Because she's so tiny!!) That is exactly the kind of scene a teenager would swoon over: Omg, his friend called me hot! Omg, I'm being picked up! It exudes such extreme ✨high school✨ energy.

The Big Incident of the novella is that Quin falls down at the club and her entire pussy falls out of her dress lmaoooooooo. I have so many questions about the character motivations and logistics at play here.

Motivations
A random stranger pushes her to the ground because...? His explanation is “Come on, bro. She's just some slut that didn't even bother to wear panties. Asking for it, if you ask me.” So... is that the reason he pushed her? How did he preemptively know she wasn't wearing panties... before... he pushed her... for...not wearing panties... and her pussy fell out... informing us that she wasn't wearing panties... which is the reason that he... pushed her?

Logistics
But then the next thing I knew, Quin had been knocked free of my arms and she was on the floor, her dress up around her naked hips... How does this happen? How? I want the physics.

It's heavy on BDSM; what I like to add is, yes, it's a fictional book and by no means a guide to the lifestyle. However, the author does add the message of consent is key and no kink-shaming. I love that she did that.

Dana Isaly is a new author to me. I am highly impressed with her writing and look forward to her other books. I am so happy this book landed under my radar. I hope to see more of Jack and Quinlan in the future. Keep an open mind; You will love this book. It’s a must-read.

On a side note, how many times can I say love in a review? 😂It has been twenty-four hours, and I am still in a high from this book.
