Sammie Shields, 72, of Mammoth Cave passed away Oct. 6, 2022 at his home.

 The Edmonson County native was born Jan. 11, 1950 and was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Local 181 International Union of Operating Engineers. He was a son of the late Martin Preston “Duncan” Shields and Nelda Lee Lindsey Shields. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Darrell Shields.

 No public services are scheduled. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 Surviving are a daughter, Julie Smith (Terry) of Bowling Green; his beloved grandson, Andrew Smith of Bowling Green; a sister, Sharon Shields of High Springs, FL; a special friend, Kay Duvall; a niece, Trixie Shields; and a nephew, Mark Shields.

Charles E. Peck Sr., 85, of Mammoth Cave, formerly of Crestwood, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022.
He was born on June 27, 1937 to the late Clifford and Ruba Peck in Massena, NY. 

Charles was preceded in death by his wife; Agnes Carolyn Cissell Peck and siblings; Doris Storie and Douglas Peck.

Left to cherish the memory of Charles are his sons; Charles Peck Jr. (Kathy) and Glenn Peck (Shannon), 2 grandchildren; Andrea Peck (Julie) and Justin Peck (Whitney), 3 great-grandchildren; Erika Rose-Peck, Micah Peck and Reid Peck, extended family and friends. 

A visitation will be held at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 706 W Jefferson St, LaGrange, KY on Monday, October 10, 2022 from 4-8pm. A private burial will take place at Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

James L. “Jimmy” Meredith, age 91 departed this life on Friday, October 7, 2022 at his residence.  The Edmonson County native was born on November 12, 1930 to the late Jim Brite and Cora Vincent Meredith. He was married for over 70 years to Ruby Meredith, who also preceded him in death.

 Jimmy was an insurance agent with Mutual of Omaha and received multiple awards honoring him for being the top national salesman in the United States.  He was the President of the Mutual of Omaha National President’s Club, and was a member of the Mutual of Omaha Honors and Builders Clubs.  He was the founder of the Optimist Club in Edmonson County, and a proud former Kyrock Blackhawk basketball and baseball player.
 He served our nation in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War era.  Jimmy enjoyed singing and was known for his beautiful tenor voice with the Lindseyville Quartet. He was a member, deacon and former treasurer of Midway United Missionary Baptist Church,  which was his greatest joy. 
 He leaves to honor his memory— three children, Regina Webb (Brent) of Bowling Green, Stephen Meredith and Cliff Meredith both of Lindseyville; three grandchildren, Brian Webb (Angie), Meredith Thornton (Ben), and Jordan Renick (David) all of Bowling Green; eight great-grandchildren, Broderick Farley, Ben and Blake Webb, Cade and Ainsley Thornton, Nash, Beau and Harper Renick, and one brother, Donald Ray Meredith.  Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by, two brothers, Eddie and Warner Meredith; and four sisters, Avil Vincent, Ivil Saltsman, Lillian Lowe and Oneta Ashley.
 Interment will be in Midway Church Cemetery.

Verlon “Scotty” Harder, age 57 of Mammoth Cave, KY  departed this life on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at his residence.  The Jefferson County native was born on February 12, 1965 to the late Murl Dale and Roxie Maxine Oaks Harder.

Verlon was a carpenter who enjoyed fishing, was very mechanically inclined and  had a fascination with astronomy and outer space.  He was of the Christian faith.
He leaves to honor his memory— his three children, Malena Catherine Ward of Brownsville, Verlon Harder (Julie) of Bee Spring, and Paul Scott Harder of Brownsville; seven grandchildren, Garrett and Hadley Sowders, Bane and Electra Ward, Patriot Harder, Samuel Beau and Ava Scout Harder; a brother, Eugene Harder of Indianapolis, Indiana; and also a niece and nephew, Brittany and Eric Harder.

Clovonna Prewitt Lindsey, 72, of Brownsville passed away at 10:24 AM Oct. 4, 2022 at her home.

 The Edmonson County native was a certified nursing assistant, a homemaker and a member of New Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Everett Prewitt and Petunia Lee Bullock Prewitt. She was preceded in death by a brother, Monty Prewitt and a granddaughter, Lexus Massey Wilson.

 Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will take place 2-8 PM Thursday and after 10:00 AM Friday.

Steve Allen Perry, better known as “Fuzzy”, age 71, of Cave City departed this life on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green. The Indianapolis, Indiana native was born on December 27, 1950 to the late Marion Clarence and Opal Carlyle Perry.  He was married to Carol Harrison Perry, who also preceded him in death. 

Fuzzy managed several properties around Cave City and also loved recycling metal.  He served as a member of the Cave City Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He worked endless hours in renovating the new Patton Funeral Home Cave City Chapel, and was so proud of the new addition to the community.   He was a member of the Heartland General Baptist Church.
He leaves to honor his memory— a sister, Linda Moore (Bruce) of Greenwood, IN; a special friend, that he considered a daughter, Beth Hayes of Cave City; grandchildren, Sara Hayes, Clayton, Colton and Waylon Winchester; a dear friend, Jonathan Wood (Megan) of Cave City along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Marion, Ronald, and Rodney Perry, Vicki Mosier;  a daughter, Anita Burris, and special loved one, Mary Katherine McClard.

Danny Spainhoward, age 82 of Sweeden, KY  departed this life on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at his son’s residence.  The Edmonson County native was born on April 2, 1940 to the late Rev. Norman and Flora Lindsey Spainhoward.  He was married to his devoted wife of thirty-two years, Brenda Kaye Johnson Spainhoward, who also preceded him in death in 1990.

Danny was saved as a young man, and was the first of his family to join Brownsville General Baptist Church, where he remained a member until his passing.  Danny retired after working many years in the maintenance department at American Sunroof Company.  Prior to that, he had worked for Brownsville Garment Company and Firestone.

Wanda Kay McCrady, 59, of Brownsville passed away Sept. 23, 2022 at Hopkins Center in Woodburn.

 The Pike County native was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was a daughter of the late Billy Robinette and Sadie Maynard Robinette. She was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Stewart and two brothers, Gregory Robinette and Zack Walters.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Thursday.

Beverly Murley, age 67 of Brownsville, departed this life on Monday, September 26, 2022 at the Edmonson Center in Brownsville.  The Edmonson County native was born on August 24, 1955 to Melba Vincent and the late Rev. Jake Vincent.
Beverly was a homemaker and a member of Poplar Spring United Baptist Church.

Marilyn Dunklau Wilson, age 69 of Mammoth Cave, departed this life on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at the Hosparus Health Inpatient Care Center in Louisville.  The Warren County native was born on May 29, 1953 to the late Henry James and Joanne Louise Robertson Dunklau.  She was married to her husband, Todd Wilson, who survives.

Marilyn worked and retired as a surgical technician for the Medical Center in Bowling Green.  She was a  member of  the Park City Chapter of Eastern Star #128  and Mt. Zion United Baptist Church.

Besides her husband, Todd, she leaves to honor her memory—four dughters, Tina Perry of Springfield, TN, Tammie Perry (Andrew Gribbin) of Elizabethtown, Julie Harder (Verlon) of Bee Spring, and April Lindsey (David) of Chalybeate; a son, Luke Wilson (Brianne) of Bee Spring; 20 grandchildren; three sisters, Susan Denton, Nancy English, and Patty Pohl (Donny); a brother, Buddy Dunklau; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Harold Hazelip, 92, of Nashville passed away at 1:00 AM Sept. 21, 2022 at his home.

 The Edmonson County native was a minister, a member of Green Hills Church of Christ, served as speaker for the Herald of Truth television series from 1971 through 1992, dean of Harding School of Theology in Memphis 1972-86, president of Lipscomb University in Nashville 1986-97, after which he served as chancellor and president emeritis at Lipscomb. He was a son of the late Herbert Hazelip and Maggie Ferguson Hazelip. He was preceded in death by nine siblings, Lawrence Hazelip, Raymond Hazelip, Woodrow Hazelip, Edna Lewis, Ruth Duvall, Charlotte Willison, Marie Hazelip, Eva Douglas and an infant brother.

 A public memorial service was hosted by Green Hills Church of Christ on Saturday. Private services were held Sunday at Gravil Funeral Home. Burial took place in New Liberty Cemetery.

 Surviving are his wife, Helen; two sons, Pat Hazelip (Angela) and Jeff Hazelip (Cheryl); six grandchildren, Amanda Binkley (Braden), Colby Hazelip, Patrick Hazelip, Andrew Hazelip and Philip Hazelip (Ally); and five great grandchildren, Daniel, Eli, Olivia, Sophie and Ava.

Freda Lee Brooks, age 72 of Sellersburg, IN, formerly of Mammoth Cave, departed this life on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Autumn Wood Health Campus.  The Utica, Indiana native was born on November 18, 1949 to the late Maurice and Cora Ferguson.  She was married to Edward “Eddie” Brooks, who also preceded her in death.

Freda retired as an inspector for Phillip Morris Tobacco Co.  She was a member of Brownsville Missionary Baptist Church, and in recent years attended Sellersburg United Methodist Church.  Freda had a true servant’s heart, and enjoyed giving her time to help others.  While she lived in the ‘country’, she was actively involved with the Edmonson County Homemakers, as well as serving from the kitchen at church.

Wilma K. Phelps of Roundhill, KY passed away at Christian Healthcare Center in Bowling Green, with family at her side on Thursday, September 22, 2022.  She was 97 years old.

Born to the late Estill and Trula Toms Keown, Wilma is also preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Nicholas Phelps.  She is survived by her cherished children Terry Phelps and his wife Dr. Vicky Lease of Bowling Green and Sharri Phelps-Womble and her husband Dr. Phillip C. Womble of Cottontown, TN; her dear sister Reva K. Stevens of Bowling Green and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Wilma retired after more than 30 years working as a Teacher’s Aide and School Secretary with the Butler County Board of Education for the 4th District school.  She loved caring for the schoolchildren and never missed an opportunity to extend her kindness to someone in need. Raised on a farm in Butler County, KY, Wilma was passionate about gardening and caring for her pets. She lived through many decades of change and was one to keep up with the times.  In her spare time, you could find her enthralled in a challenging crossword puzzle or spending time with her family.

The family of Ms. Wilma K. Phelps would like to sincerely thank the caring staff of Hosparus as well as the nurses and staff at Christian Healthcare Center for their dedicated time and caring devotion.

James Dale “Crawfish” Crawford, age 62 of Sweeden, departed this life on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. The Louisville native was born on June 14, 1960 to  Maybell Reed Crawford and the late Charles Clayton Crawford. He was married to his wife, Tammy Vincent Crawford, who survives.

He was a truck driver and throughout the years he drove for B&D, Overnite Transportation, American Freightways and FedEx Freight.  He was a member of the Brownsville Missionary Baptist Church.

Besides his wife, Tammy, and his mother, Maybell, he leaves to honor his memory -- his son, Shiloah Britten Crawford (Andra) of Scottsville; three daughters, Misti Dawn Crawford of Russellville, Heather Nicole Crawford (Jeremiah) of Roundhill, and Shana Beth Crawford of Sweeden; five grandchildren, Ba’Lee Renea Crawford, Hannah Leighona Berry, Hadley Shianne Crawford, Maxton Grey Crawford and Adela Plum Chrisley; one brother, Ronnie Crawford (Patricia) of Chalybeate; and four nieces and three nephews. Carol Gillett Raymer, 82, of Smiths Grove passed away at 10:57 AM Sept. 20, 2022 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.

 The Union Beach, NJ native was a homemaker and a pharmacy technician. She was a daughter of the late Theodore Gillett and Laura Panghorn Gillett. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Teddy Gillett and Brian Gillett and a sister, Audrey Gillett Conroy.

 A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 Surviving are her husband, Leonard Raymer; a son, Michael Fowler (Cynthia Stanley) of Burnsville, NC; two daughters, Peggy Miller (Chad) of Lake Worth, FL and Sabrina Barndollar of Boynton Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Briana Barndollar, Ryan Barndollar, Brock Miller and Kellan Miller; and two great-grandchildren, Kai Mead and Callie Mead.

Linda L. Brooks, age 70 of Bowling Green, formerly of Bee Spring, departed this life on Monday, September 19, 2022 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.  The Grayson County native was born on November 13, 1951 to the late Hayward and Martha Pawley Douthitt.  She was married to her best friend, Steve Brooks, until he preceded her in death on September 12, 2000.

Linda worked as a property manager, and was the former owner of the Country Bouquet Florist.  In later years, she operated an embroidery shop beside her home in the log cabin where her husband, Steve was born.

She leaves to honor her memory— her son, Aaron Brooks (Tess) of Bowling Green; two daughters, Stephanie Brooks of Bowling Green and Chelsea Brooks of Alvaton; two brothers, Allen Douthitt (Barbara Dennison) and Terry Douthitt and a sister, Brenda Simpson.  She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Angela Brooks, and her brothers, Larry, Doug, and Kennie Douthitt.

Faye Skaggs, age 75 of Chalybeate, departed this life on Monday, September 19, 2022 in Nashville, TN.  The Hart County native was born on August 23, 1947 to the late Joe and Pearline Sanders Dennis.  She was married for fifty-four years to her devoted husband and help mate, Barry Skaggs, who survives.

Faye worked for many years as a seamstress.  She was saved as a young girl on August 5, 1961 at Cove Hollow United Baptist Church.  She later joined Midway United Baptist Church, where she remained a member until the Lord called her home.

Besides her husband, Barry, she leaves to honor her memory— her son, Gregory Skaggs (Melissa) of Bowling Green; her grandson, David Paul Skaggs of Bowling Green; two brothers, Michael Dennis (Pam) of Horse Cave and Ricky Dennis of Munfordville; four sisters, Brenda Pannell (Billy) of Munfordville, Cathy Goldsmith of Munfordville, Patsy Fulkerson of Glasgow and Jeanie Rucker (Ricky) of Munfordville, along with several beloved nieces and nephews.  She was also preceded in death by three siblings, Tommy and David Dennis and Linda Rucker.

Bruce Graham, age 60 of Pine Grove, departed this life on September 16, 2022 at his residence. He was born on May 8, 1962 in Edmonson County, KY to the late James Fuller and Violet Lorene Poteet Graham. He was married to Tammy Graham for almost 42 years, who survives.

Bruce was a retired maintenance supervisor for Fruit of the Loom, who enjoyed farming. He was a member of Pine Grove United Baptist Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves to honor his memory— his two sons, Jeremy Graham (Ashley) of Mohawk and Jared Graham of Bowling Green; two grandchildren, Hannah and Chloe Graham; four siblings; Wilma Lay (Aubrey), Wanda Graham, Karen Jaggers (Terry) and Randy Graham (Karen) all of Pine Grove; several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Don, Harold and Cecil Graham, and one sister, Kathy Lindsey.

Levenia Bledsoe, age 88, of New Grove, departed this life Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Signature Healthcare of Hart County. The Edmonson County native was born August 22, 1934 to the late Paul and Lola Doyle Cassady.  She was married to her devoted husband, Noah Bledsoe, who preceded her in death on July 15, 2017.

Levenia retired after working for many years as a sales associate for J.C. Penney.  She was a member of New Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
She leaves to honor her memory, her family that she adored--  her children. Dennis Bledsoe (Sandy) of New Grove, Judy Houchin (Keith) of Shadyland and Deborah Booker (Ronnie) of New Grove; seven grandchildren, Chris Houchin, Beth Coates (David), Julie Richardson, Lee Anne Bledsoe (Blake Briscoe), Todd Browning, Dee Rosado (Eric) and Devon Bledsoe (Jessie); bonus grandchild, Marci Booker Roney (Jeremy); ten great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two siblings, Jimmy Cassady (Beatrice) of Lindseyville and Wanda Douglas (Bill) of New Grove.  She was preceded in death by  her great-granddaughter, Shelby Richardson and siblings, J.E. and Leroy Cassady and Lois Hennion.

Interment will be in Smiths Grove Cemetery.

Michael Thomas Scott, age 66 of Brownsville, passed away on August 28, 2022 at his residence. He was born on January 22, 1956 in Lexington, KY to the late Clarence Vance Scott and Lucille Price Cosby of Nashville, TN. He was married to the  late Vickie Lynn Bratcher.

He worked for many years in the flooring and construction industries before his retirement. 
Besides his mother, he leaves to honor his memory— his daughter, Jamie Sipe (Bryan) of Longmont, CO; siblings, Robert Scott (Diane), Dennis Scott (Regina), Robbin Capel and Kim Smith; grandchildren, Michael Allen and Jordan Sipe; sister-in-law, Angie Pendleton (Jim). He was also preceded in death by his sister, Julie Beth Hughes. 

He will forever be in our hearts.

Ronald David “Ron” Bradford, 82, of Sweeden passed away at 5:52 PM Sept. 5, 2022 at Edmonson Center in Brownsville.

 The Jefferson County native was a commercial realtor for Coldwell Banker, a district manager for several businesses and a member of Community Church at Cedar Springs. He was a son of the late Joseph Elbert Bradford and Dorothy Brock Bradford. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dara Kay Bradford; two brothers, Sonny Bradford and Buddy Bradford; and two sisters, Darlene Dunn and Lillian Gerrior.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Gravil Funeral Home with burial to follow in Brownsville Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday.

 Surviving are his wife, Sharon Hazelip Bradford; two daughters, April Prewitt (Ritchie) of Sweeden, and Wendi Scott (Chad) of Bowling Green; two sons, Ronald David Bradford Jr. (Lori) of Louisville and Shawn Hogan (Kelly) of Hendersonville, NC; a sister, Susan Lumley (David) of Jeffersonville, IN; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Tom Marsh, age 75 of Bee Spring, peacefully departed this life with his family by his side on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. The Jersey City, New Jersey native was born on March 25, 1947 to the late George and Theresa Fitzpatrick Marsh. He was married to his best friend, devoted wife and help mate of fifty-three years, Patricia Lamar Marsh, who survives.

Tom owned Marsh Trucking, and retired after many years of driving for himself, as well as Atlas Trucking Company and Alexander’s Moving and Storage.  While driving across the Arizona desert, Tom found the Lord and was saved in his semi truck.  He came back home to Kentucky, proclaimed what the Lord had done for him and united himself with Sweeden Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful member until his passing.

Besides his wife, Patricia, he leaves to honor his memory his family whom he adored--his daughters, Tonya Marsh-McGrew (Bobby), Kelly Marsh Rich (Joey) and Amanda Jo Morton (Michael “Crowder”) of Bee Spring; his grandchildren, Justin Goins (Kasy), Madison Phelps (Alex), Cash and Caroline Morton; his siblings, Jimmy Marsh (Barbara), Charlie Marsh (Annie) and Jackie Chevalier (Harry), along with several in-laws, nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by his twin brother, Georgie Marsh.

Clarence Whitaker, 75, of Bee Spring passed away at 1:25 PM Sept. 4, 2022 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.

 The Grayson County native was a farmer, a coal miner, a lineman, a US Army Vietnam veteran and a member of Christian Home General Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Lonnie Whitaker and Nancy Saltsman Whitaker and the husband of the late Billie Jane Vincent Whitaker. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Leah Whitaker.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Vincent Church with burial to follow in Vincent Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM Wednesday at the church. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 Surviving are a daughter, Linda Hunt of Bee Spring; two sons, Tommy Whitaker and Tony Whitaker both of Bee Spring; a brother, Owen Whitaker of Bee Spring; a sister, Carolyn Bell of Anneta; his right hand man, Lyndon Vincent; and several nieces and nephews.

Lawrence “Bunny” Simmons, age 85 of Wingfield, departed this life on Monday, September 5, 2022 at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky.  The Edmonson County native was born on March 11, 1937 to the late James W. and Sallie Hawks Simmons.  He was married to his best friend and devoted wife of fifty-three years, Geraldine Elmore Simmons, who survives.

Bunny was a United States Army veteran, and retired from Asbestos Wood Manufacturing, after working many years in construction.  He was a member of the Wingfield Volunteer Fire Department.

Besides his wife, Geraldine, he leaves to honor his memory— two daughters, Carol Sue Copas (Tony) of Austin, KY and Julie Anne Stewart (Jimmy) of Bowling Green; two grandchildren, Kayla Simmons and Cody Briar Copas; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Simmons and Nova Simmons and two brothers, James Simmons (Jean) of Chalybeate and Bennie “Buck” Simmons of Wingfield.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charlie, Raymond, Guy “Tootle”, Roy “Noots”, J.C. and Ernest Simmons and his sister, Delphia Buchanan.

Interment will be in Wingfield Church Cemetery.

Jeffrey Dewayne Netherton, 37, of Bowling Green passed away Sept. 2, 2022 at his home.

 The Warren County native was a repossession agent. He was a son of the late J.R. Netherton and Janie Crain Netherton of Bowling Green, who survives.

 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Anneta United Baptist Church, where he was a member, with burial to follow in John Stevenson Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM Wednesday at the church. Gravil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 Also surviving are a brother, Allen Crain (Ginger) of Clarkson; a sister, Linda Wood (Tommy) of Sadler; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
