4.0 out of 5 stars Needs a lot of sunshine

I needed something to protect the trees from deer but couldn't use the hose so decided to give it a try. The battery does take a while to charge so at first I wasn't too sure whether it is working at all or not, but after two-three weeks it started to spray some water when I was coming next to it and my young trees still haven't been eaten so I guess it works. It is quite expensive though so make sure you've got enough sunshine to keep it going.

As with other reviews I've read this item is unpredictable at best. You don't have to be in front of the sensor to trigger the spray. While in other instances workmen have unknowingly stood in front of the sensor with their hands wiggling before it and it has not been triggered. Puzzling.

Purchased this deterrent spray to keep herons and foxes away from my pond. I was very disappointed. The spray worked ok but the sensor was near to useless. Sometimes it activated when nothing was around and other times family members could be walking within a couple of feet and it did not activate. And considering we are a lot larger than a fox this was very disappointing. Tried to get in touch with the company to get it exchanged but this was such hard work i gave up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute waste of money

Havahart Spray Away Elite II is an absolute waste of money, this product came charged so could be used straight out of the box, which was great. However, as soon as that charge ran out the solar panels are useless and don’t charge the battery, so it is now nothing more than an ugly garden ornament. Avoid!!!

Get This Motion Sensor Sprinkler!

Havahart Spray Away Elite II Review

The Spray Away Elite II is only one of two hose-free solutions available for motion sensor sprinklers. The other one is the Guardener A 201 Animal Repellant. They are similarly priced, but the Guardener only received 3/5 stars on Amazon with numerous complaints about the quality of construction and lack of customer service from the manufacturer. Havahart on the other hand has 3.5/5 stars from 111 reviews, and responses from the manufacturer on complaints! They even re-shipped and reimbursed customers for malfunctioning units.

In short, if you need a hose-free solution to your critter woes, the Havahart Spray Away Elite II is the way to go.

The unit holds a total of 3.5 gallons. You get a total of 35 sprays per fill. For infrequent sprays, you can probably get about 5 days of use. One user reported that on a windy day, which can cause leaves to activate the sensor, you may have to fill it daily. It will really depend on your home and number of unwanted animals you need to keep out of your garden or yard.

One other thing to consider is that this is a solar powered sprinkler. The upside to this is that you don’t need to install or replace batteries, and can basically put it anywhere in the yard, regardless of distance from the hose. The downside is that it needs to be a sunny place.

Pros

  • hose-free
  • solar powered
  • solid construction
  • low battery/low water warning
  • motion activation LED (so you can test covered area before filling)
  • adjustable sensitivity
  • 2 year warranty and responsive customer service

Cons

  • more expensive than hose models
  • requires filling
  • must be placed in the sun to charge
