How can I see Fast and Furious 9?

The Age

(F9) is even more of a live-action cartoon than its predecessors, envisaging a universe where driving through a literal minefield... is more or less a normal way to travel.

(F9) shows the series still going strong in its impressively preposterous ways, to the point where even its own failings only make the whole mess that much more fun to witness. It is popcorn cinema strapped to a rocket engine...

The film is a return to principles, and if it goes off the rails into pure silliness - almost irredeemably at one point - there’s at least an ethos to it.

F9 leans into a degree of meta-comedy that has thus far been untouched by the hyper-masculine, testosterone-fuelled previous films.

Those who’ve never reveled in the logic-free fun of this franchise may well eye-roll at its unapologetic excesses... But what more could fans of this high-octane entertainment ask for?

Unless FasTen involves time travel, it's hard to see how this franchise could top itself, and based on the often dull, always bloated results here, it seems foolish to try.

Nature is well on its way to healing, because vroom-vroom movies are back, baby. F9, aka Fast and Furious 9, is speeding into theaters this weekend, and the movie industry certainly hopes the film will signal a bounce back for movie-going.

Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges are back, and while Dominic Toretto is technically retired, I think we all know it won’t take much convincing to get him behind the wheel again. This time, he’s going up against his own brother, Jakob Toretto, played by the one and only John Cena. (Cue John Cena’s theme music.) Oh no! Family vs. family! Dom’s weakness!

While theaters are hoping audiences will want to see the action on the big screen, some viewers may want to know how to watch F9 at home. After all, this past year has made it much easier for movie lovers to legally stream movies at home. Here’s what we know about where to watch Fast and Furious 9.

WHERE TO WATCH F9:

Fast and Furious 9 will open in movie theaters in the U.S. on June 25. You can buy tickets for a showing near you here.  For now, a movie theater is the only place to watch Fast and Furious 9.

CAN I WATCH FAST AND FURIOUS 9 ON STREAMING?

Not right now. You will not be able to watch F9 on streaming when F9 opens in theaters on June 25. However, you may not have to wait very long before F9 becomes available to rent on digital. Read on to learn more.

WHEN WILL FAST AND FURIOUS 9 BE ON STREAMING?

F9 will be available to rent for $19.99 on-demand on Friday, July 30, on digital platforms like Amazon Prime, YouTube, Google Play, iTunes, and more. You will have a 48-hour window to watch the movie after you hit play.

Universal has a deal that allows the studio to release its films on premium video-on-demand—meaning you would be able to rent the movie for $20—after 17 days in theaters. If the movie hits the $50 million mark, it will be released on PVOD after 31 days.

Therefore, because F9 hit the $50 million mark on its opening weekend, you will be able to rent it at the end of July.

WILL FAST AND FURIOUS 9 BE ON HBO MAX?

No. F9 is a Universal film, not a Warner Bros. film. While HBO Max is the streaming home for Warner Bros. blockbusters like Godzilla Vs. Kong and In the Heights, it will not be the streaming home for Fast and Furious 9—and at least, not for a while.

It is possible that F9 will be on HBO Max someday—after F9 releases on DVD— if the deal to send Universal movies to HBO Max gets renewed. After that, F9 should be available on Peacock, the NBC Universal streaming service. But we’ll just have to wait and see.

IS F9 ON NETFLIX?

No, sorry. F9 is not on Netflix, and it most likely will not be on Netflix any time soon. Universal has made deals with Netflix in the past, but right now the only part of the franchise streaming on Netflix is Fast & Furious Spy Racers, a Netflix original animated series for kids. The people making deals reportedly remain open to making a deal with Netflix for Universal films, but nothing has been decided yet. If you don’t want to miss out on the action, your best bet to see F9 as soon as possible is in a movie theater.

This post has been updated with new information about the F9 digital release date.
