i was cleaning my documents folder, and all my saved games files were there. so i made a folder to put them all in, but i also know if i change my saved game files, my games will mess themselves up and not be able to find the save files. If only there was a way to not make shortcuts and not mess my games while changing the save files location... thanks for the help!

Did you only change the location of SAVE game files temporary ? You need to put the save game files back to their previous location, be it Documents, MYGames, AppData, ProgramData etc., because games are going to access that location.

IF there is no saved game file under the appropriate folder, then you won't be able to access SAVE while in-game. For STEAM and UPLAY you need to look under the folders created by the app/client.

I ALWAYS make a backup of my save game files. just in case my OS gets corrupt, or there are some stability issues with my games forcing me to re-install the ENTIRE game.....

I think I one time manage to permanently 'move' the save game location for some of my games using symbolic links. That was a while ago though, and I've since reinstalled windows so that setup is long gone.

There's no built in method to move only your games (SteamApps) directory. Your best bet is to move your entire Steam installation to your desired location. Valve has a support article that details the steps involved in the entire procedure, along with some important warnings:

Use mklink and symlink directories. Create a symbolic link in Program Files\Steam that points to a steamapps directory somewhere else. I've done it 2 times successfully.

Also, I should note, that if you don't know your file system then I would ask for help in doing this.

You can't individually. However, you can install Steam anywhere you want, and the save games will then go there. The easiest way would be to move the current directory, uninstall Steam and re-install is wherever you want it, then copy over the moved directory.

Granted, this won't make much of a difference unless you want them on another disk, but it's the only way.
