How do you reset the blinking blue light on Litter

Litter-Robot: Flashing Blue Light with empty waste drawer.

A flashing blue light on the Litter-Robot III Open Air is the Drawer Full Indicator (DFI) sensor advising the waste drawer is full and needs to be emptied.

The DFI is located on the underside of the top of the base, left and right side of the dump chute, and are narrow green circuit boards with clear plastic covers.

When the soiled matter from the Globe is dropped into the waste drawer, it fills the drawer. When the pile is sufficient to interrupt the infra red beams that cross from left sensor to right sensor, the Litter-Robot alerts that the drawerr is full and needs emptying by completing the cycle with a  flashing blue light. The Litter-Robot will cycle another 2 times, and then no longer cycle, until the waste drawer is emptied and a new liner is inserted in the drawer. RESET button needs to be pressed to cancel the flashing blue light, and the Robot is back in working order.

Sometimes, the flashing blue light activates and will not cancel after emptying the waste drawer and pressing RESET.  If this is occurring, please complete the following checks to resolve or progress to repair if needed.

As a first quick check, try turning off and unplugging the power supply from the back of the base of the Litter-Robot for 1 minute. Remove the waste drawer completely. Plug in and turn on. Review, observing what lights show. If the Litter-Robot completes cycling, vacuum any loose litter from the base cavity once finished. On completion of the cycle, check if there is a solid blue light or a flashing blue light.

If the Litter-Robot has a solid blue light, check that the liner is inserted correctly, and is below the edge of the waste drawer, tucked down into the corner tabs. Replace and retest.

If the blue light is flashing, then please proceed with the following checks.

Please complete the requested steps, regardless of what you have already tried, noting information in relation to colours of lights showing, and if they are flashing fast (4 per second)  or slow(1 per second).

If the initial cycle has completed (or not) and the light is still blinking blue, please proceed to do a deep clean of your Robot.

You can review the process here:

Do ensure you clean the DFI sensor covers, noting that you wipe these with a damp cloth, as they will scratch if you use anything harsh.

Once you have completed the deep clean, reassemble your Litter-Robot, plug in the power supply to the back of the base, and turn on the power button. Please review what occurs, noting colour of lights and flash rate.

If the cycle completes with a solid blue light, your Robot is in working order again.

If the cycle completes (or not) with a blinking blue light, press RESET once. Note the outcome.

You will now need to lodge a support ticket, as Customer Service will need to assist you further  to resolve your fault.

To help progress, please provide the following photos with your support ticket:

  1. DFI left and right sensors , facing each, with flash, for sensor review. The sensors are located left and side, under the top side of the base, and are visible if you look into the chute itself.

  2. BASE with globe removed, from above looking down onto the base top, and from each side

  3. DFI with Robot assembled and turned on. Review the left sensor (when in front of the assembled and switched on Robot) and take a very short video of the left side sensor, without the flash. You are looking for 4 reddish flashing lights, which will only be visible through the phone camera as they are infrared. Remove the waste drawer completely to access the cavity of the assembled and switched on Robot.

We look forward to getting you back to automatic asap!

How do you reset the blinking blue light on Litter

Litter-Robot 3 flashing blue light

You’ll most commonly notice a flashing or blinking blue light on your Litter-Robot 3 control panel. This blue light is called the Drawer Full Indicator, which means that the waste drawer is full (or approaching full) and needs to be emptied. After you have emptied the drawer and installed a new liner, hit the Reset button on the control panel—the light should return to solid blue, indicating the unit is ready for use. If you have a Connect unit, you will have to hit the Reset button in the Whisker app.

Note: Sometimes the waste will pile up on one side of the waste drawer and activate the Drawer Full Indicator even when the drawer is not very full. In this case, you may need to shake the drawer to level out of the waste, then hit the Reset button on the control panel.

Litter-Robot 3 flashing yellow light

A solid yellow light on your Litter-Robot 3 control panel indicates that the unit is cycling or paused, and requires no action from you. However, a flashing yellow light could mean one of two things.

Flashing yellow slowly

Flashing slowly (about once per second) means the Litter-Robot clean cycle was interrupted.

  • Your cat may have tried to enter the unit as it was cycling, and was detected by the built-in cat sensor; this caused the unit to pause its cycling. It will resume cycling 15 seconds after the cat leaves the globe.
  • A slowly flashing yellow light may also mean that the bonnet is removed or disconnected. Check that the bonnet tabs at the side and rear are secured to the base. The unit will resume cycling 5 seconds after the bonnet is replaced.
  • Last but not least, check for excess weight, such as too much litter or waste. Litter should not surpass the raised fill line on the black rubber liner inside the globe. Then hit the Reset button to reset the cat sensor.

Flashing yellow quickly

Flashing quickly (about four times per second) means the anti-pinch safety feature detected a pinch condition. In this case, you will need to turn the Litter-Robot off and check the waste port in the base to remove any obstruction. Then turn the unit back on and hit the Reset button.

Litter-Robot 3 flashing red light

A solid red light on your Litter-Robot 3 control panel means that the cat sensor was activated by your cat entering the globe while the unit was ready for use. The unit is counting down to a clean cycle, depending on your set wait time (3, 7, or 15 minutes).

A flashing red light indicates that the cat sensor has been activated continuously for 2 minutes or more by either too much weight in the unit or your cat not leaving the unit. Make sure your cat has left the unit, then check for excess weight, such as too much litter or waste. Litter should not surpass the raised fill line on the black rubber liner inside the globe. Then hit the Reset button to reset the cat sensor.

Some litters are heavier than others. Depending on the litter you're using, you can remove some litter to be a little below the raised fill line. Then press the Reset button. This will often resolve an issue of too much weight in the globe.

Litter-Robot 3 blue and yellow lights on

If both the blue and yellow lights are illuminated on your Litter-Robot 3, it means that the unit is in 8-hour sleep mode. (The unit will not cycle automatically during those 8 hours.) If you’d like to deactivate sleep mode, press and hold the Cycle button for 5 seconds. Have a Connect? You can also turn 8-hour sleep mode off or on in the Whisker app.

Litter-Robot 3 lights flashing sequentially

If your Litter-Robot 3 troubleshooting is more complex than the scenarios described above, you’ll likely notice lights flashing sequentially:

  • Flashing yellow to red means the motor has detected an obstruction or jam. Turn the unit off and remove the bonnet and globe. Check for gear or motor obstruction. Reassemble the unit and verify a proper litter level. Then turn the unit on—if the problem persists, try the Litter-Robot 3 Troubleshooter or contact Whisker Support.
  • Flashing blue to yellow to red means the unit can’t find the dump position. Try the Litter-Robot 3 Troubleshooter or contact Whisker Support.
  • Flashing red to yellow to blue means the unit can’t find the home position. Try the Litter-Robot 3 Troubleshooter or contact Whisker Support.
  • Flashing blue, yellow, and red simultaneously means the unit will not cycle. Try the Litter-Robot 3 Troubleshooter or contact Whisker Support.

How do you reset the blinking blue light on Litter

How do you fix a flashing blue light in Litter

If the blue light on your Litter-Robot is flashing, it means your drawer is full and needs to be changed.

Why is my Litter

Cat sensor has been activated to interrupt the cycle, or the bonnet has disconnected or been removed. What to do? Wait 15 seconds to see if the cycle resumes, as the Litter-Robot may have stopped if a cat got into or on the globe.

Why does my Litter

Debris may cause the DFI to indicate a full drawer regardless of the waste in the drawer. Once you are done cleaning your unit, let it dry fully and then reassemble it. If it is not dry, the litter will clump prematurely and may get clogged in the ports or litter pocket.
