6 mo ago I recently placed a deposit down for a 86 Premium MT last week. They didn't have the exact color and trim I wanted so I just ordered a completely new one that hasn't been built yet. I was told it would take 8-12 weeks for the car to be ready for pick up at the dealership but for the sake of getting quotes and setting up my insurance. I wanted to know if anyone
was in a similar situation and knew how long it would take to get the VIN after placing an order. 2022 GR86 MT Base - Trueno Blue Joined

That's a pretty quick turnaround for you. Guess you're getting the next car or something from that dealer. A Salesman had told me about 3 weeks prior to the vehicle being built you'd get a vin and a bunch of tracking goodies. But he could have been wrong I didn't find that dealer very trustworthy Joined

assumed it was about average wait time. I hope the my salesman wasn't just bs'ing. That's the problem with dealerships tho it's always hard to trust them, in the back of my head I keep thinking it's going to take a lot longer than expected. 2022 GR86 MT Base - Trueno Blue Joined

It’s more about what’re you’re looking for, how much that dealer sells, and how many orders they have already I think. I’m in the 3-6 months camp. Some are upwards of 6-8 Joined

Are you getting an AT without being picky on the color? I’d die for that short of a wait, I’m at 6-8 months for a MT. 2022 Ice Silver BRZ Limited manual. Joined 10 mo ago · 2,187 Posts
I got a BRZ, but assuming because they are built in the same plant, I think it will be the same. VIN numbers are given AFTER the car is built and when it gets sent for quality inspection prior to shipping. Joined 6 mo ago · 16 Posts

No the one I ordered was a manual Like others have said they should have a VIN soon if they actually have it lined up for a delivery in 12 weeks. But from calling literally 45 dealers in the Western US I would push your sales guy for more solid details on if it’s being built or if they are just waiting
for allocation. Because if they are waiting for allocation it’s quite literally a roll of the dice if they get what you want. Toyota may still only allocate them an AT. This video goes over Toyota’s unique production and allocation process pretty well. What color did you get? I’m holding out for Neptune. Joined 7 mo ago · 154 Posts
yeah it won't be 8-12 weeks. 8-12 weeks means they believe they will get your car at the next 1 or 2 allocations. you could get lucky at the next allocation, but there is no way they actually know what they are getting before they get it. expect 3-6 months. the last allocation was ramped down pretty significantly. I'm guessing because they
are starting to send them to EU/AUS too. your best bet is to call every dealer within the range you are willing to travel, every week, until you find one. a dealer also told me 8-12 weeks. I did not believe them. they are just trying to get your money. I put down a (refundable) deposit at a different dealer and started calling around. I found an allocation and will be getting it in two weeks. all in all it was about 8 weeks of searching and waiting, and I found a car already allocated. if you are waiting for an allocation at a single dealer it's gonna be months. Yeah no, if they don’t have a VIN already they have no way of knowing when your car will come in. There is no such thing as ordering a GR86 to be built, they are sent at random to dealers. You have ordered a vague promise that a car that doesn’t exist yet will arrive at some indeterminate point in the future. If you want a premium MT in a specific color,
you could be waiting anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 years. if you’re looking for an automatic and you don’t care about the color though, 8-12 weeks is probably accurate. Tons of automatics out there. Joined 6 mo ago · 16 Posts

I don’t mind holding off on the Trueno for a little but if it’s like you said I’d rather add more colors to my options so I get a better chance. Joined 7 mo ago · 154 Posts

deposit for that color, they would get the first right of refusal 2022 GR86 MT Base - Trueno Blue Joined 6 mo ago · 126 Posts

It seems the only one that
is difficult to come by is Neptune. I'm looking for trueno as well and I'm only 4th in line at my dealer. Although a Salesman that I used to work with said to me once "You're spending the money, you're not spending that much on something that doesn't make you happy" So if you're actually fine with those colors by all means. So if you're actually fine with those colors by all means. I agree. I’ve been interested in the Halo white but then again like you said I want to get what I know I 100% want. I haven’t texted my salesman about the second option but I’ll leave it in the back of head for now. 2022 GR86 MT Base - Trueno Blue Joined 6 mo ago · 126 Posts

not like the next one by May honestly that’s when I’ll throw in the second color or more if I feel like it. Halo isn’t bad so I’d put that as my third personally. Pavement Grey GR86 Premium Joined 10 mo ago · 143 Posts
tbh its a lottery system you are in. My car took two weeks just at the port, my friends took almost 2 months. EDIT: wanted to add, expect zero transparency through all of these steps, dealers dont know any more than you do until a VIN is in your hands. and between each 'stage' (A, F, G) thats all the info that can really be attained. not your color. I am holding out for a Neptune Premium MT, but if after 7 months of waiting and my dealer calls me and tells me they have a Halo white or Pavement come in with that spec then I seriously might consider getting one of those instead. Fingers crossed for the Neptune though! Also if you haven't already, make sure your sales guy sends you a picture/copy of the OTD bill out sheet, listing the car price and all of their addons and the title/registration fees etc. Don't want to
find out that they add $1500 of "dealer features" at the very end. Joined 6 mo ago · 16 Posts

Oh, I already have the OTD bill out sheet with the break down of pricing including TTI. I wasn’t charged over MSRP but I got the car fully specced
out. I think I’ll wait for 2 months before I say anything though since I literally just put the deposit last week but it feels like it’s been so long already.
