question. I'm setting up an iPhone 11 PRO Max using my existing iPhone 7 Plus. The transfer of data is now taking place (using WiFi) and the iPhone 11 PRO MAX is saying "Activating your iPhone" -- both phone are displaying a spinning circle. The process has been going on for nearly two hours now -- what should I expect? iPhone 11 Pro Max Posted on Jan 15, 2020 12:46 PM 2 replies

on your new iPhone 11 Pro Max! It's my understanding that transferring your date from your old iPhone is taking longer than expected. You've come to the right place! I'm happy to help. Transfer times can vary depending on connection type, network, and the amount of data being transferred. If your Wi-Fi network is slow or congested you may want to try the wired method to transfer data. Take a look at the following resource for more information: Use Quick Start to transfer data from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
Jan 18, 2020 5:19 PM in response to sterling r After 6 hours, I finally forced both phones to abort what they were doing and, before trying again, I used the enclosed mini tool to pop open the SIM card drawer and check it out since the iPhone 11 had hung on "activating you iPhone" step. The card only fits one way and so I put
it back in and embarked on my second attempt -- this time I decided to not initiate the iPhone to iPhone transfer at the first presented opportunity as I had seen from the Google searches I had done that the the expected place to initiate the iPhone to iPhone process occurs later in the set up process. When I got to that second opportunity, I then started the iPhone to iPhone transfer and it completed within about 90 minutes. I will add that there can be some difficulties in subsequently pairing
one's existing Apple Watch with one's new iPhone. I did first un-pair the watch from my old phone but it still wouldn't pair with the new iPhone -- after observing that the new iPhone was 'busy' downloading 70 or so apps from the app store, I decided to wait until the next day when that process step was complete. But the watch still wouldn't pair regardless of the method I used (auto/manual). Finally, I rebooted the iPhone 11 and then it finally paired with the auto method.
