How many inch does hair grow in a week

This method also known as the inversion method is a natural way to promote hair growth.

Those who know me, know I’m afraid of hairdressers. Way too often my hair was messed up and I have never managed to find a hairdresser who understood what I had in mind. And trust me, I’ve searched everywhere for him/her.Long ago I decided not to cut my hair (only 2 times a year) and I stopped coloring and styling my hair. Problem solved et voilà healthy hair. Especially heat seems to really be disastrous for beautiful long hair since your hair breaks down too fast. In addition, all natural shine will be gone the moment you start using heat (too often). But how to grow your hair really fast?

Not long ago it was time again for my rare appointment with the hairdresser and since my hair almost reached to hip level I told her to cut off a bit more. Note to self, never say ”cut off a bit more” when you have in mind 2 inches. After another little hairdresser trauma I searched on YouTube to find out how fast it takes for hair to actually grow. I came across the Inversion Method”.

This seems to be a new hype on YouTube, but I realized that my father already did this during my childhood when he dried my hair. This may explain why I had the most beautiful and longest hair as a child. Not kidding.

The Inversion Method

So, since the Inversion Method seems to be the secret to grow your hair fast and healhty, I thought I should give it a try. And guess what? It works …. Really. This really is THE secret to long healthy hair. Why? Well, it makes sense. The faster your hair grows, the less chances of breakage so the healthier the hair will be.

This method claims to let your hair grow 3 to 5 cm in one week!Normally, hair grows up to 1 to 1,5 centimeters permonth. So 3 to 5 centimeters in just seven days sounds too good to be true, right?

How does the Inerversion Method work?

  • You’ll need to massage olive or coconut oil on your scalp. Argan and jojoba oil is also a good option. I didn’t use an oil every time since you will need to wash it out after it and I don’t wash my hair every day.  When I did use an oil, I opted for coconut oil. On other days I used the natural oil ” on my head.
  • Sit down and bend your head forward (between your knees). Your head is hanging upside now (inversion). Sit like this for 4-minutes while you are gently massaging your scalp.
  • If necessary wash or rinse out the oil from your hair. Repeat this process seven days straight and then give the hair/scalp three weeks of rest before doing the Inversion Method again.

It’s not only very relaxing (who doesn’t like a massage?), but it gives your hair a lot of volume if you don’t wash your hair afterwards.

Please be carefull though when you’re pregnant, have low blood pressure or have problems with your back.

The results

For a week I did the inversion method every night. Only one time I used an oil (coconut oil). Before I started I measured my longest lock. I did not make the five centimeter as many claim on YouTube, but oh my did my hair grow! To be precise, 2,5 centimeters. Indeed, 2,5 centimeters in 7 days !! Reminder, hair grows an average of 1 to 1,5 centimeters per month.

In addition, my hair has more volume and is smoother. Totally worth it!

Im convinced though that healthy food and drinking plenty of water will have a positive effect on the health of your hair (growth). So just massaging your scalp will not leave you instantly with healthier hair.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What happens if I don’t take a break?
You will overstimulate the scalp and may not get the results you hoped for.
  • Can I try this on very short hair?
Yes, the length of hair is of no influence.
  • Does this work if your hair is wet, or does the hair have to be dry?
It’s better to massage the oil in dry hair
  • I just want to know how long my hair will grow if I use this method
This is for every person different
  • Do curls matter? I have a mess of curls
    No, it shouldn’t matter
  • I had tremendous hair loss due to health reasons and I want to make it long. How should I do this method and will it be beneficial for me?
If you have any health issues I would recommend to first discuss this with your doctor
  • Can it grow 3 inches overnight?
    That would be a miracle
  • What’s the best time to do this? Is it at night or morning?
I don’t think that really matters

Frequently Asked Questions – Oils

  • What kind of oil can I use?
I use olive oil or coconut oil. Argan oil, almond oil and jojoba oil is also a good oil to use.
  • How long do I leave the oil on my scalp?
As long as you wish. The technique is about massaging in the oil. You could leave the oil in overnight as a hair nourishment.
  • After massaging the oil onto the scalp, do I have to wait some time before washing my hair?
You can treat your hair after the massage like you normally do. You don’t need to wait.
  • Can I use castor oil instead of coconut oil?
Yes, but I personally will not use this since it’s terrible to wash out.
  • How much oil do I use for one massage?
This can be different per person. You should use enough oil to cover the scalp and to massage it in.
  • Does this work the same if you don’t use an oil?
I’m not sure, maybe if the hair is oily/not too dry or too clean.
  • Can I use cooking coconut oil ? Do I use it as it is, or melt it and use it ? Or buy specific products that have coconut oil?
Yes, you can use coconut oil for cooking. It will melt once you start massaging. But if it’s already melted that’s also fine. Any organic cold pressed coconut oil is good to use
  • Can I use baby oil?
I’m not sure. I think it’s better to use other more natural oils
  • Can I switch back and forth between olive and coconut oil?
I have never tried that before, but I think it should be ok.

I’m still not a fan of the hairdresser, but for more volume or growth I will repeat this. Would you hang upside down for healthier hair?
