Jul 24, 2011 What is the typical equivalent number of small square hay bales (about 70 lbs.) to a 3x4 and a 4x4 round bale? Joined Jan 18, 2011 · 216 Posts
What is the typical equivalent number of small square hay bales (about 70 lbs.) to a 3x4 and a 4x4 round bale? When they used to round bale my field, as well, square bale it,... I don't know the weights, 1 square probably weighed 40+ lbs. The round bales were of an 'average' size to me. They compared (from an eye ball stand point) to be roughly the same size of other round bales I had purchased in the past. Does that make sense?? 😉 Joined Apr 26, 2011 · 31 Posts

It depends entirely on weight. Small squares around here average 60-65 pounds, the current 4x4 round bales we are getting average 1700 pounds so 1 round bale = about 27 square bales. Joined Jan 18, 2011 · 216 Posts

the current 4x4 round bales we are getting average 1700 pounds . ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No 4x4 rd bale of dry hay ever weighed 1700 lb of any type of hay. Try more like 350-500lb. small squares are anywhere from
25-145 the whole how many bales per bale argument is flawed and useless. quote both hay types by the ton and you have a valid argument. Joined Jan 18, 2011 · 216 Posts

I was also curious about this because we will have no means of moving round bales this winter. We will have to use small square bales. My guess was going to be about 12 to 15 smalls per round bale. Another thing to consider with round bales vs. small square bales is that usually round bales are kept outside and small bales are kept inside, at
least around here they are. When outdoors, the sun, rain and dust make the outer layer of round bales useless and waste. If the bale has been left for a long time, the bottom of the bale could be bad. Using hay stored inside would have less waste from of the elements. To eliminate more waste you should use a feeder. How much hay is in a 4x4 round bale? How Much Does a Round Bale of Hay Weigh? A 4'x4' round bale of legumes like alfalfa weighs about 600 lbs (272 kg). A 4'x5' bale weighs 950 lbs (430 kg). A 5'x5' bale weighs 1,200 lbs (540 kg) and a 5'x6' bale weighs 1,500 lbs (680 kg).
How many square bales make a round bale?Round bales have the same amount of hay as about twenty square bales. They are designed to be moved using tractors. Instead of having to move twenty square bales out of the field, into the barn, then back out to the cattle during the winter, one large bale is moved with a tractor.
How big is a 4x4 round bale?A 4x4 round bale is 4 foot wide x 4 foot high, or 1.2m x 1.2m.
How many small squares are in a large round bale? One big round bale can in most cases be turned into 22x small squares – you do the maths. Or it might just be a good way for you to turn you large bales into easy to handle, convenient small bales.
