Most smart devices automatically connect to a WiFi network after you’ve logged in once before. So, it is easy to forget WiFi passwords these days. While iPhones don’t have a built-in feature to easily show your WiFi network’s password, there are workarounds. Here’s how to find your WiFi password on an iPhone.

How to Find a WiFi Password on a New iPhone

If you have an iPhone 8 or newer, you can easily find, reveal, and copy your WiFi password by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and selecting the “i” icon to the right of your WiFi network name. Then tap Password and use FaceID to reveal it.

Once you have revealed your WiFi password, you can then tap Copy. This allows you to switch to a different application, tap and hold any text field, and select Paste to share your WiFi password.

How to Find a WiFi Password on an Old iPhone

To find your WiFi password on an iPhone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi >and tap the “i” next to your network. Then tap and hold the number next to Router, select Copy, and paste it into your browser. Finally, enter your router’s username and password and select Wireless settings. 

Note: These steps tell you how to find your WiFi password by logging into your router from your iPhone. Unfortunately, there is no other way to find your WiFi password using just your iPhone.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone. This is the app with a gear-shaped icon that comes with your iPhone.
  2. Then tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Next, tap “i”  next to your WiFi network name. This is the button has a blue encircled letter ‘i’ icon.

    Note: These steps will only work if your Mac is signed in to your Apple ID. If you see another Apple ID is signed in, go to Overview > Sign Out. Then sign in with your Apple ID and password.

    The default SSID for your iPhone hotspot is your name appended with the string: 's iPhone. For example, if your name is John, then the default SSID will be John's iPhone.

    First, tap on the Settings icon from your iPhone home screen:

    Once you are in the Settings screen, tap General

    After that tap About:

    Next, tap Name:

    Finally, type in a new name and click on Done:

    Once you had done so, your WiFi SSID of your iPhone hotspot will be changed to the new name.
