If you want someadded security within your home, you should look into getting a remote doorbell you can easily install at your gate. This will allow you to find out who is at your gate without having to peek through the windows or leave your home.

Step 1 - Install the Chimes

How to install ring doorbell on metal gate

The first thing to do is to install the chimes in your home. All you need to do is mount the chime to the wall with a small screw and then plug it in. If you are using multiple chimes, ensure you place them strategically within your home.

Step 2 - Install the Remote Doorbell

Once the chimes are set up and plugged in, you can then go out to your gate and start installing the switch. Place the switch in a spot where someone is going to be able to see it, typically on the actual gate or on the wall next to it. Most of the switches you find will use an adhesive, or screws.

Step 3 - Give it a Test Run

Once you think you have everything ready, have one family member stand in the home while you stand outside and push the bell. This will allow you to make sure you have installed everything properly.

Since COVID, we started locking our front gate because we wanted to let our kids and dog roam wherever without worrying if delivery people would forget to latch a gate. So I wanted to add a Doorbell 3 to our gate so delivery people could at least ring the doorbell if they needed us.

I bought this metal bracket from Amazon. My plan was to have a matching plate on the other side and have screws holding the two plates together. I could never find a matching plate at the hardware store and I'm too lazy to fabricate anything so I just bought two of those brackets and took the plate off one. I used 1.25" screws to hold them together, but it'll depend on the size of those bars.

The other part you'll need is this. The metal bracket from Amazon is actual for the Doorbell 2, so you'll need this parts kit to act as an adapter between the two. You'll have all the necessary screws between your own doorbell parts and the spare parts kit.

The only problem is...anyone with a hex bit and a pair of pliers can steal your doorbell, but they could do that anyway with the Ring torx driver. But it works well in my application. We have low traffic so I just set it up to record everything and I love the Doorbell 3 pre-roll. I even bought the solar panel so I don't have to try to futz with changing the battery all that often. I'll try to supply a pic if I'm not too lazy to go outside.

Can Ring Doorbell be mounted on metal?

The included hardware is really only for wood and mortar. So you technically can screw it into metal but it will damage it.

Can you put a Ring Doorbell on a gate?

Now you can control your gate from the Ring app and let friends, family, and service professionals in from anywhere, whether you're home or away. Plus, connect with an optional Ring Video Doorbell or Security Camera to see, hear, and speak to visitors from Live View.

Can you install Ring Doorbell without drilling?

The No-Drill Mount uses a strong, non-damaging adhesive to keep your doorbell securely attached to the wall. Just adhere No-Drill Mount to your wall, then attach your doorbell to the No-Drill Mount, and see, hear, and speak to visitors from anywhere. Removal is easy and damage-free, too.

Can you attach a Ring Doorbell to aluminum siding?

If you're installing a Ring Video Doorbell on a house with aluminum siding or on a house where the door is at the top of a set of stairs, you can use a wedge kit to properly position the device. This will help catch visitor motion, but minimize "false positive" motion alerts, such as cars on the street.
