Is argan magic good for your hair

Most of my product reviews thus far have been pretty positive. That’s because for the most part, I like all of the stuff I use. However, a site that’s all positive reviews seems fake, and I like to keep it real. With that being said, here’s the good, the bad, and the ugly about Argan Magic Shampoo and Conditioner.

The good:

There were two things that drew me to buy this set. First off, I love when shampoo and conditioner are in these giant pump bottles. Partially, this is because I that giant fart sound when I’m really just trying to squeeze shampoo out of a stupid squeeze bottle, and partially because I don’t have to buy shampoo/conditioner as frequently. The pumps just make it easier to use, and I’m all about them. The second thing I liked about these products was that they smell awesome. That’s important…just because it is. Bonus: It’s paraben free- yay!

Pump bottles! *ooooh ahhhh*

 The bad:

The actual tops of these pump bottles are way too small. They’d be good for a bottle of hand soap, where one or two little pumps is sufficient, but they pump insufficient product for my giant mane. I have to pump these stupid things like 28 times to get enough shampoo/conditioner to actually cover my hair. (Disclaimer: I have giant hair).

These were also pretty expensive. They were $25 for the set of two… and that’s on sale at TJ Maxx. You can get Aussie for less than half of that, and it smells just as good, and comes in much better pump bottles.

The Ugly:

My hair after using this stuff. I tried using these products exclusively for two weeks to make sure I was getting the full effect, which was entirely awful. This stuff left my hair looking extremely dull and didn’t help tame my frizz in any way. I was actually shocked by how crappy my hair looked after using this stuff. My mom even pointed out that my once luscious mane has entirely lost it’s luster. I went back to using a basic Pantene shampoo and within a few days my hair had its groove back.

I’m not even going to provide a link to buy this stuff because your money is better spent on something (just about anything) else. However, to be fair, I have heard that some of their other products (hair oils and such) do work pretty well.

A good hair day can boost your mood like nothing else, so when you start to notice your hair thinning or falling out at a faster rate, it’s worth checking you’re using the right products.

What causes female hair loss?

Shedding hair is normal and usually nothing to worry about - according to the NHS, we can lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day. In women, more excessive hair loss can be caused by hormonal changes (such as when you’re pregnant or going through the menopause), age, diet, stress, iron deficiency or as a side effect to an illness or treatment.

Being overzealous with heating tools and years of bleaching can also play a part in hair loss, especially around the hairline. Both contribute to breakage by making hair dry and brittle, eventually leading to hair fallout.

Can shampoos really regrow hair?

Technically, shampoos can’t regrow any missing patches of hair. However, what they can do is create the right environment to encourage your natural hair to grow as healthily as possible.

Keeping your scalp clean and at optimum health is a key part to achieving a fuller head of hair. Ingredients to look out for range from caffeine to peppermint oil to boost circulation, while proteins and keratin will strengthen hair and give it more resilience.

Hair loss shampoos and conditioners are formulated to target the common causes of hair loss. The main types are:

  • Anti-breakage shampoos and conditioners: these reinforce the structure of the hair strand, aiming to prevent breakages and splitting.
  • Hair-thickening shampoos and conditioners: these focus on making hair appear (and sometimes feel) thicker, to create more body and lift.
  • Root- or scalp-stimulating shampoos and conditioners: these aim to clear away root or scalp build-up and stimulate the hair follicles to encourage healthy hair growth.

How we test

We gave 700 testers – all with self-diagnosed mild to extreme hair loss or thinning – a shampoo and conditioner set to trial for between one and two months.

The products aimed to correct one of the three main causes of hair loss: anti-breakage, hair-thickening and root- or scalp-stimulation. Testers made a note of any differences they saw to their scalp and hair condition over the trial period, as well as how hair felt after each wash. The panel included women with a range of hair types, from straight to afro hair.

In the GHI lab, we also assessed anti-breakage shampoos by combing through hair switches that were treated with the product(s) and comparing them to untreated hair switches. The easier the treated switches were to comb, the less risk of hair breakages and fall out in real life.

We also conducted a lab test for thickening and root-stimulating shampoos, using a Hair Metrix machine to analyse the effect each shampoo had on hair density and thickness.
