Army Of The Dead Age Appropriate Parents Guide

Lets take a look at what parents need to know before allowing their kids to view Army Of The Dead.

Language: Army of The Dead contains some harsh language with profanity used throughout, including words: sh*t, f*ck and more.

Violence: Other than language, the biggest lookout in this film is the violence it contains. As one can imagine with a movie based on zombies, you will see plenty of death, gore, bloody scenes, guns, gun battles, stabbings, and explosions.

Sexual Content/Nudity: There is a scene at the beginning of the film where oral sex is implied in a car, as one character leans over to perform the implied sex while another character is driving. There is also a scene where topless female zombies are shown.

Overall Thoughts

While Army of the Dead doesn’t reinvent the zombie/horror genre by any means, it is a great addition to the pantheon of films that has come before it. The premise of how the outbreak in Las Vegas occured takes place mostly during the opening credits, so by the time the movie gets going you are already on board.  The origin of infection is never explained, but there is clearly a zombie zero, and when that zombie bites someone they become alpha, and when an alpha bites someone they become beta basically.  The alpha zombies are smarter, faster, and stronger then their bretheren and definitely ones to watch out for.

Humans living outside the walls built of shipping containers seem to have become complacent after the outbreak but are desperately poor.  So the idea of adding a heist element to the film makes sense as means to get anyone willing to go in and brave the onslaught of the undead. Most of the characters introduced lack backstories of any kind, so you never fully make a connection, but knowing that many will undoubtably die because, duh, zombies, you won’t end up feeling bad when they do.

At 2 1/2 hours the film is quite long and at times it certainly feels like it, but it is well filmed and certain subplots keep it from being a long drawn out bore. The main stars of course are the zombies and plenty of action which is the draw for zombie movies anyway.  The zombies look great and there is no shortage of bloody carnage and associated viscera flying to and fro, and of course Las Vegas is a great backdrop for an apocolyptic film such as Army of the Dead.

A pregnant female zombie is killed, and the dead zombie fetus is removed and shown. Human characters die, and there are lots of guns, knives, and explosions. Several very violent acts are committed against women. Language is also really strong, with many uses of "f--k," "s--t," and more.
