Pokémon that can learn Waterfall gen 5

I have a question regarding the HMs Waterfall and Dive: Are they needed many times in the game? I find it lame how only 14 of the new Pokemon can learn dive(and I don't want to sacrifice a spot for an HM slave)...

they aren't really needed at all ingame and I don't even think you use them until post game

Dive is only used to get most of the Arceus Plates and a few other items that sell for a LOT of money. Not sure about Waterfall though.

If I'm correct, the only HM you actually need for pre-E4 is Cut.

I don't believe any of them are mandatory to get through the game, even the one strength one has an alternate route you can take by climbing up one of the pillars.

Fly is a huge help when you have to backtrack near the end though, since you have to go through two caves without it.

Waterfall's only good use I saw for was to get to Fertility Shrine. when u get the 2 Roaming pokemon u can get that other monster at the shrine. so yeah is there any other use

You can use waterfall in illusion forest off route 16.
If I remember right, you can get a rare candy.

I know HMs aren't so important in this Gen but I wonder what you guys use. Right now I've got Strength and Surf on a Herdier and I have a pidove with fly.

Also, anyone know if I can get a friend code and trade with someone over wi-fi for something that isn't in the Unova Dex even though I haven't gotten the National Dex yet? I really want a ditto right now. The event Zorua was male only and I wanna breed some for the GTS. =(

I'm waiting until I've done all the rocks (rendering Strength obsolete) because then all I'll need is Fly and Surf, at which point the decision is down to "bonus" moves or abilities e.g. Dig (free escape ropes), Flame Body or Magma Armor (faster hatching) or Pickup.

I caught a Dratini (Lv 55) in the game (with the Super Rod outside the Dragonspiral Tower) and got it levelled to Lv 57 so that it became a Dragonite which I gave Cut, Fly and Strength. I then found that a Frillish can take Flash, Surf, Dive and Waterfall.

Or.. yeah. Trees and Rocks dont come back this gen, I think, so Strength and Cut become obsolete after awhile. You only REALLY need Surf and Fly and a few pokemon can combo that. Ducklett is available very early on in the game. Also, with infinite TMs, its easyt enough to replace a move with Strength or Cut as you need it and just un-learn next time you fly to a pokemon center.

I kept a Swanna for a while, since it can learn Fly and Surf.

you can get ti really early in the game and it can learn, Cut, Strength, Dive, Surf, Waterfall, idk about Rock Smash but maybe

Also, I figure MOST teams will have Surf or Waterfall on one of their pokemon... so that makes THAT a tiny bit easier.

There's nothing to get from behind trees once you get past them though. Even the Dreamyard one only guards grass you can access more easily thanks to the removal of the rock and traffic cone in the same area.

Similarly there's only one Dive spot you can get everything on (and even if they respawned, you'd want the Dive creature to have Surf, Flash and Strength as the other three moves to make it an Abyssal Ruins slave).

Finally there are only four Waterfall-accessible areas in the game (counting all of the route 14 ones as one area), and the only one of which you will ever need to go to more than once is the route 14 one because it leads to the Abundant Shrine.

That leaves Fly, Surf, and arguably Flash for its use in 3/4 of the cave areas, coincidentally making it more necessary than at least two HMs.
