Wario64 says he's hearing that GameStop "is no longer expecting Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake to release". Says people who preordered it will be notified that it is not arriving, while the website currently states that is unavailable, with some listings being delisted.

It's possible the project could be cancelled, but it could very well be development being rebooted.

level 1

I would have a hard time believing it would be cancelled this soon after announcing a different studio had taken over. I'm guessing it could be at a stage where it's not expected for a few years and so they're delisting until something is more concrete.

level 2

The only reason I can think of Gamestop possibly delisting it is that maybe (hopefully) it's evolved beyond just Sands of Time. Thus "Sands of Time Remastered " doesn't technically exist.

level 1

It only (publicly) moved studio a month ago didn't it???

level 2

they gonna develop AC india lfor more sales 🤣🤣

level 1

I am fine with this being cancelled IF it means that they're just making another Prince of Persia. I don't think that's it, but God, I'd want that to be it. What a great franchise just left to rot.

level 2

It was replaced by Assassin's Creed when that got more popular. Which I can sort of understand, both franchises are similar. Much in the same way that Driver was replaced with Watch_Dogs. I would much prefer new entries in the former franchises though.

level 2

I’m pretty sure you ca. still preorder dead island 2 though lol

level 2

It's a remake of a fucking PS2 game, HOW HARD CAN THIS SHIT BE

Looks like ubi can only do Assassins Creed and Far Cry and all other games are doomed to be never released

level 1

I think this might be a case of this particular project being cancelled, but a SoT remake is still coming nonetheless. They probably are starting from scratch with a completely different vision and scope. It's unfortunate that something like this is going to be put under the same category as Beyond Good and Evil 2 and Skull and Bones because this means it's years and years away.

Should've never given a project of this magnitude to a fucking support studio in the first place, especially seeing what Capcom managed to do with Resident Evil. Ubisoft is dumb as fuck.

level 1

Probably delisted at the $40 price tag so when it’s rerevealed, it’ll be $70.

level 1

It sounds like it's just in some sort of indefinite development period, so holding pre-orders makes little sense.

level 1

Yeah, it seems most likely that it’s being rebooted from scratch internally, and as such is being pushed back so far that Gamestop may not see a point in advertising/listing it anymore and decided to just pull it.

It hasn’t even been a full month since Ubi announced they were moving development in-house, no way they immediately decided to cancel it after making that decision.

level 1

Yeah, Ubi issued a statement earlier that they gave the reigns of the game development to Ubi Montreal so this game isn't releasing any time soon.

level 1

this was supposed to be just a remaster right? what the hell is going on over there?

level 2

I think it was originally. Then moved to a full remake. Then got moved to Ubisoft Montreal. With a release date of 2023. Tho I could be wrong

level 2

From what I'm aware, the original version got shit on for its visuals so they started trying to, yaknow, actually remaster the game.

And now they changed developers entirely like a year later lol

level 1

This only solidifies that Ubisoft is in some deep shit. Creatively. Beyond Good and Evil is silent too, AC series are dwindling, Division 2 is basically on life support, any new entries are just copy pasted games like Far Cry 6, Watch Dogs, Ghost Recon... Skull and Bones doesn't look anything of interest. Only some news about Splinter Cell remake and that's it... like wtf is that company doing???

level 2

Why do uou think they are looking to getting bought?

level 2

You forgot the plethora of battle royale projects in development, trying to catch that money milking spark. The state of this company is fucking sad not gonna lie.

Is Prince of Persia remake still coming out?

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake isn't cancelled, but it is delayed (again) Ubisoft no longer expects the game to be out in the 2023 fiscal year. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake (opens in new tab) was announced in 2020 with a 2021 release date, which eventually became 2022, and then 2023.

Why was Prince of Persia remake delayed?

Originally targetting a January 2021 release, the game was delayed to March 2021 and again to an unspecified date in the future. Ubisoft explained that the project's gameplay and graphics needed to be further refined, and by October 2021 it was announced that the game would instead launch sometime in 2022 or 2023.

Is Prince of Persia getting remastered?

After being announced in 2020 the remake was set to be released in 2021 before being delayed to Fiscal year 23. The project also moved development teams from Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal. A new release window has not been revealed, but it looks like it will be some time before the Prince returns.

Will Prince of Persia remake be on ps5?

Either way, Ubisoft has confirmed they're still developing The Sands of Time Remake. It will launch for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation4, PlayStation5, and Nintendo Switch. We don't know the official date for when Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai will release Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
