My last box opening video raised a lot of great questions about where to buy doll kits.  So, here are my go to suppliers!

I have personally done business with every company on this list.  And I can certify that they sent me a quality product in exchange for my money - or if they didn't, they worked closely with me until the quality product arrived.

Sandie Unger is amazing and has a great selection of doll kits and reborning supplies.  She's very responsive and her shipping and processing is so fast that it will blow your mind.  She once sent me a tracking number before I even got the payment confirmation from PayPal.  I love Sandie! Brenda MacPherson probably has the largest selection of vinyl doll kits.   My favorite feature is the ability to sort the doll kit catalog based on Sculptor or doll size.  This is also where I like to buy my OOAK mohair.

Even though they are in Canada, prices are in US dollars and shipping is available.  My only complaint is that the website sometimes lets you buy things that are out of stock.  But other than that, they've been great!

you can start with any kit by Donna RuBert because she makes great and easy dolls to paint im working on one now her name is heather and she has amazing details

Beginner kits are great, but they are not complete. Beginner kits are much better than pulling together a huge shopping list yourself. Sometimes they run on sale, which will reduce your cost of supplies. Just keep in mind that you may need to supplement your beginner kit with solvents, primary colors and more tools before you're truly cooking with gas :)

Here are some places that sell Beginner Kits:

I am new to this. Made my first doll and hooked. I have noticed that two of the kits I have bought off of ebay and one I bought from Reborn Doll Kits & supplies did not come with COA, Should I be concerned about this. Is this something that is important to the reborn community?

Hi Tina,

Welcome to the wonderful world of reborning!

Not all doll kits come with a COA, especially not if it is an open edition. If the kit is limited edition, then the COA is important because it will come with a number, for example, Kit #56 out of 800. This is usually valued by collectors. Realborn kits from Bountiful Baby come with these because they are somewhat limited editions. But the rest of BB's stuff is open edition, so you wouldn't get a COA even if you bought it from the source.

Some sculptors send COAs even with their open edition kits. For example, I believe Marita Winters does this. So a Marita fan may expect to get the COA with your doll. But I don't think most people would miss it.

It may be helpful in the future to research the kit and see if it was supposed to have a COA before making your purchase from another seller.

Thanks!

Kim

i want one so much that i got my grandaghter to help me

Hi I am watching your tutorial youtube videos and I just found your webpage. Thank-you for your gracious teaching videos. I need them all. I'm new to reborning -I bought an inexpensive baby from Bountiful Baby to begin with. that's all I have so far. I'm a sculptor and I'm sculpting 10 inch babies and learning to cast them in silicone. then I decided I wanted to learn how to reborn as well.
thank-you so much once more for your excellent teaching -you inspired me to reborn with you. patti Willman on facebook .

Watching you on YouTube video ,now I want to make a preemie, but is that kit good for a first time starting out, and I will order it in parts a little bit at a time

Sure! My first kit was the 18" Punkin by Donna RuBert. Kits much smaller than that are challenging because the little details like nail beds become more difficult to see and to paint.

Very large kits over 23" are hard for beginners because you have more area to cover and thus have to work your paint much faster to get an even complexion.
Thanks!
Kim

Hi there

Can you please help me. I cannot access the bbreborndollsupplies.com website. Do you perhaps know if they have closed down or what is happening?

Yes, it does look like Andrea took her site down. I’ll remove that link from my blog. You can find all the exact same products at the same prices on Bountiful Baby’s new site: www.bountfiulbaby.com.

I order my first kit from BB and I'm and excited to get started! However for the doll I'm creating because it is a larger doll I wish for the hair yo be longer. BB mohair is shorter than what I'm looking to root. I wanted to know if there was a place I could order longer mohair? Thank you for all of you video series and the blog you have here. I've gotten so much confidence and a knowledge based from it all....looking forward to your response.

Congrats! And Welcome to the wonderful world of reborning! For toddlers, I find human hair a fast and affordable option (but you do have to root only one or two strands at a time). You can buy decent quality human hair at your local beauty supply store. A Plus Mohair has great selection in a variety of colors and lengths on Etsy. If you don’t see the length you want on her site, just shoot her a note and she’ll usually find what you need. This is her website: https://www.etsy.com/shop/Aplusmohair
Happy Reborning!

Kim, I’m new to reborning & I have followed your videos. Thank you so much, you are great!! I have a problem, I rooted my reborn with human hair & then cut it short, it is to thick, I’ve already glued it, is there anyway to remove the hair & start over? It won’t lay down & very much to thick. Thank you for any help. Cindy

Hi! I am Kim.  I've been creating dolls all my life. I started stuffing cotton balls into my mom's pantyhose when I was a little girl. Now I hand-craft dolls that look and feel like real babies.

This is where I answer detailed technical questions for customers and fellow doll artists.

Drop me a line if you have a question not yet answered here.  I'd love to hear from you!

What do you need for your first reborn doll?

Buy the essentials such as clothes, blankets, diapers, bottles, pacifiers, a deluxe stroller, a car seat, reborn doll milk formula [this is usually fabric softener or glue and water], baby wipes, and toddler toys. Do not feel the need to buy overpriced baby items.
