Red lightning bolt on dash dodge charger

As the owner of a 2006 Dodge Charger, You may find various lights illuminating on Your dashboard over the years. Most of these are an alert for routine maintenance, but others are an indication that something is wrong. In the case of the appearance of a lightning bolt, it means that the electronic throttle control is faulty. You can test the control by obtaining a code reader (which can be purchased for between $12 and $45). Use the reader to scan Your motor to look for error codes to appear. If there is a problem, the ETC will need to be reset. To do this, put the ignition in the on position, then compress the gas pedal three times, quickly.

The 2006 Dodge Charger lightning bolt symbol on a Dodge Charger is the indicator for the electronic throttle control. The electronic throttle control regulates engine idle speed, traction control and cruise.

2006dodg charger no thro response liting bolt

The Red lightning bolt of death means the car's computer thinks there is no communication between the gas pedal and the throttle bottle. It is called an Electronic Throttle Control, or ETC for short. Lightning bolt=ETC error. Many reasons for this happening. With early Dodge Magnum, Charger and 300 it can be the following but not limited to: -Bad grounds -Bad EGR valve- and/or the EGR pipe intake manifold silicon ring(s). -Bad spark plugs/coils/wires -Bad O2 sensors/wires-suspect if you have a very rough idle. -Bad throttle body -Bad engine wiring -Bad crankshaft/camshaft sensors -Bad computer -Bad gas pedal-yes, this talks to the throttle body. I had this intermittent problem on my 2005 Dodge Magnum RT 5.7 and only after replacing the Computer did the problem go away for me. I had replaced the throttle body, EGR, all sensors, new plugs- none of that helped. Now have very smooth idle, good power and no more lightning bolt problem.

The lightning bolt icon on your dashboard alerts you to a problem with the electronic throttle control system in your 2014 Dodge Charger. The gas pedal is not mechanically connected to the engine. Instead, a sensor monitors the position of the pedal and that information is sent to the ETC to make changes in engine speed. If the system detects a problem that results in an ETC error, the ETC light illuminates on the dashboard.

What To Do

If the ETC light stays on after the initial lamp check at start-up or it illuminates while driving but the Charger drives normally, continue on your way; but make a note to yourself to have it checked. If it is safe to pull over, stop the car, put it in "Park" and turn off the engine. Restart the car and see if the light comes back on. The "Check Engine" light may or may not also be lit. Have the car scanned for trouble codes. With so many possibilities that affect the ETC and engine speed, having the trouble codes goes a long way toward narrowing down the problem -- which may be as simple as replacing the air filter or replacing the ETC sensor, especially if you have a heavy foot on the gas pedal. If the ETC light illuminates and you experience performance problems -- such as misfires, stalling or erratic throttle response -- your Charger is unsafe to drive and you should take it to a shop straightaway.
