If you’re familiar with the Dyson V-series vacuums, this is the beefed-up and corded version of it; only it is manufactured by a different company, Shark. They’re marketing it as an ultra-lightweight upright since it only weighs 8 pounds. Shark claims that this will perform better than a Dyson DC40 on deep cleaning tests on carpet,s and early reviews from consumers seem to confirm this. A Corded Version of the Dyson V-Series CordlessShark Rocket TruePet Ultra-Light HV322 ReviewIf you take a Dyson V-series cordless vacuum, beefed it up, and added a cord, the TruePet HV322 would be the result of it. This model is one of Shark’s early attempts at catching up with Dyson when it comes to manufacturing high-quality stick vacuums. The downside to being beefier is the added weight. And the HV322 is a lot more top-heavy, so it isn’t as easy to uses to clean above floors as a smaller cordless stick vacuum as a Dyson V8 would, but it’s less expensive than even Dyson’s cheapest cord-free option, the V6. At just under $200, this could be a great deal for people who could not afford a Dyson. But want similar functionality that is something lightweight and versatile that has excellent cleaning capabilities. Let’s see how this cleaner performs in the real world. A quick look at the features
Pros
Cons
What to expect from the Shark Rocket TruePet HV322?The first thing you’ll notice with this vacuum is it looks like a Dyson V8 only bigger and in a different color. There are two variants to choose from the HV321 and HV322. Both have the same motor and features. The only difference is the HV322 comes with a specialized mini motorized brush to clean pet hair off upholstery and stairs. Check out this video to see what you get from the HV321…Even though Shark calls this as an upright, it will have a hard time matching its performance because it has a small dirt cup. And emptying it though not hard can be messy, and you’ll want fewer trips to the bin as possible. No HEPA filtrationIt does not have any HEPA filtration, so avoid this if you have allergies. It comes with attachments like the crevice and brush tool for above the floor cleaning. Also, it comes with the so-called hard floor genie that looks like this. It looks eerily similar to the Dyson hard. The good thing is you don’t have to spend another $100 and so dollars to get the same functionality. LED headlightsAnother unique feature not found in under stick vacuums at this price range would be the LED headlights at the main cleaning head. This helps in terms of visibility so that cleaning dust areas under furniture won’t be an issue. Advanced swivel steeringTo help in moving around furniture, the main cleaning head of this Shark has swivel steering. This feature helps it turn on a dime without much effort. Attachments and AccessoriesIt comes with a total of 5 – (1) 12″ crevice tool, (2) dusting brush, (3) TruePet Motorized brush, (4) upholstery tool, (5) extension wand Here are two of them. Cord LengthThe power cord is 32 feet long, but it does not have cord rewind. Filter Clean upThere are two foam filters that you need to clean up. Both are stacked on top of one another and can be accessed by removing the cover on the motor. You’ll have to wash these filters at least once a month to maintain performance. Check Availability However, these filters aren’t “lifetime filters,” which means it’ll eventually wear out during the repeated wash and dry cycle it goes through. The excellent news is replacement filters are available in Amazon for less than $10. I suggest that you purchase an extra set to eliminate the downtime of having to wait for the filter to dry up. WarrantyIt comes with a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty. Bare Floor PerformanceIt comes with two tools for cleaning bare floors. The floor attachment has a brush that you cannot switch off, but it is adjustable. Using the “1” setting will protect the floors from scuffs since the brush will not spin as fast. How does it clean bare floors?Another tool is the floor genie that doesn’t have a motorized brush but only relies on suction to pick up dirt on hard surfaces. Also attached to it is a microfiber cloth similar to that of a Dyson Hard that, in theory, wipes the floor clean, but if you clean a massive area, it could get dirty fast, and you’d have to wash it so it can be a nuisance. Carpet PerformanceWhen cleaning carpet floors, you have to set it as setting “2” or the max setting so that the beater bar will be able to dig in and deep clean carpet. Based on the video and written reviews, it does an excellent job on area rugs and carpet. Here’s a video of it in action. One thing to note about the swivel steering, though, while it can swivel, it does not turn to a 90-degree angle as a Dyson does. It swivels only to a 45-degree angle, so don’t expect Dyson like performance in terms of maneuverability. Upholstery PerformanceIn addition to the crevice and dusting brush tool that clean lose dirt, it comes with a TruePet motorized brush that will work well on upholstery. It will pick up embedded dirt like pet hair on fabric upholstery. Take note that this is only available on the HV322. Pet Hair RemovalThat same TruePet motorized brush will work well in removing pet hair on upholstery. On stairs, you can use the TruePet brush or attach the primary floor tool directly to the motor for more deep cleaning. Another tool you can use for cleaning pet hair is the upholstery tool that has fabric strips on both sides to agitate and pick up hair on upholstery, curtains, or bed sheets. According to most of the reviews, it is maneuverable and picks up a ton; even pet owners love how it cleaned up pet hair on the carpet. Better than a Dyson? Some consumers even compared this with Dyson’s DC59, and they would prefer this over the Dyson because it was cheaper. Also, they didn’t have to worry about the battery running out. It also outperforms other 2-in-1s in terms of cleaning performance, but one problem with this is the small dirt cup that fills up fast. Small binSome people said that it filled up so fast that they didn’t notice that it was already full. So frequent trips to the garbage bin are necessary when you use this. Some issues with the tool clipThe clip is an excellent addition, but the quality isn’t as good. You can’t remove tools with just one hand. And the clip itself tends to fall off quite easily. It also does not stand on its own because the motor is heavy. You’d have to remove the motor from the wand and attach it to a holder located on the bottom part of the rod before storing it. Also, the cord is long, and before using it, you’ll need to remove the motor first before dislodging wire, which is a bit of a hassle, but consumers didn’t seem to mind it at all. Feedback on the hard floor toolThe hard floor attachment is an excellent addition, and one reviewer gave a tip in using it – don’t go back and forth with it, only go forward, so it doesn’t streak. Maintenance seems to be easy. You need to wash the two filters once a month and cut the hair off the motorized brush. If you have lots of pets, go with this, if not, then go with the HV321 that does not have the mini motorized tool attachment and save around $30 or so. Does the Shark Rocket TruePet Ultra-Light HV322 Provide Good Value? At its current price point, the Shark Rocket HV322 brings a lot to the table when it comes to versatility and performance. It has some features that even the Dyson V-series cordless does not have and these include the LED headlights, hard floor tool that consists of a mop, and the extra-long crevice tool that adds to the reach. The bigger body and larger motor, unfortunately, adds to the weight, making it more top-heavy than even the Dyson V10 or V11. It comes with attachments that are suitable for cleaning pet hair on chairs, sofas, and stairs such as the TruePet brush tool and upholstery tool. Cleaning performance is excellent on carpets and decent on bare floors. The newer HV322 that are available on Amazon seems to have the Duo Clean head. If that is the case, then this product is a bargain despite the more bulky frame. Remember that since the dirt cut is smaller, you’ll have to empty this more often. It can be a pain, but folks don’t seem to mind. I guess this will boil down to personal preference. While Shark advertises this as an upright, don’t expect it to replace an upright because of the small dirt cup. And since it cannot stand on its own, you’ll need to disassemble it first before storing it. Cleaning performance won’t be an issue when you buy this, but the plastic parts can be in the long term. The plastic main tube will break if you’re not careful, so please take note. Since this is top-heavy, using this as a handheld may be an issue for folks who are a little weaker. Just don’t expect this to be feather-light – it isn’t, it is significantly larger than a Dyson V8. The LED headlight (on both the floor and handheld tool) is an excellent addition because it gives better visibility. 4 Reasons to consider the Shark Rocket TruePet HV322
Less Expensive Option Than The Dyson Cord-Free Vacuums
92% Summary Folks looking for a reasonably priced stick vacuum and don’t mind the cord should have a look at the Shark Rocket TruePet HV322. It’s a bigger version of the Dyson V6 and V8 with a cord. Since it’s got a constant power source, running this for extended periods won’t be an issue if you don’t mind the lack of portability.
