We collect data from a claimant (or a person helping the claimant) as they complete an application for benefits and enter the information into our Modernized Claim System (MCS). We update each case in MCS to reflect information collected and actions taken during processing along with associated dates.

The Northeastern Program Service Center (NEPSC) is located in the Joseph P. Addabbo Federal Building in Jamaica, New York. The NEPSC serves approximately 9.4 million retirement, survivor, and disability insurance (RSDI) beneficiaries, whose Social Security numbers begin with 001 through 134, 729, and 805 through 808.

Why would SSI send me a letter?

Whenever we send you a notice, it is because there is something you should know or do about your claim, benefit status or benefit amount. We send you a notice before we make a change to your benefit amount or eligibility. We will send a notice whenever we must tell you about activity on your case.

How do I make an appointment with local SSA?

If you do not want to apply for benefits online, or you need to speak to us for any other reason, you can schedule, reschedule or cancel an appointment by: Calling us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 8:00 am – 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Contacting your local Social Security office.
