We’ve been making our way around Disneyland to snack on some magical treats and celebrate opening day of the park’s brand new parade, Magic Happens!

Olaf, Anna, and Elsa

We’ve already tried the Esquite Hot Dog, Island Pork Toasted Sandwich, Dulce de Leche Sundae, Día de los Muertos Hand Pie, and Sleeping Beauty Churros. Buuuut, it’s a good thing we’ve got our stretchy pants on ’cause we’re taking you with us for a full meal at Plaza Inn!

Magic Happens has finally made its debut in the park and the Magic Happens Dining Package is coming along with it! If you want to relax and dine before the parade, your package will include a lunch entrée, a dessert, a beverage, a Plaza Inn credential, and a voucher that will give you access to the parade’s reserved viewing area.

The entrée includes fried chicken, short rib with chimichurri (which is like a garlic parsley sauce), corn relish, roasted seasonal vegetables (carrots at our visit), and pesto-infused mashed potatoes. If you’ve visited the Plaza Inn, you’ll know that their fried chicken is AH-MAZING. The breading was crisp, and the chicken inside was moist and flavorful. Plus, it paired super well with the carrots and corn relish.

But, our favorite vegetable happened to be those pesto-infused mashed potatoes! The basil and garlic flavors from the pesto melted into the buttery potatoes (and basically made us want an entire tub of these mashed potatoes). However, we wished we could have doubled up on the chicken or potatoes because we thought the short rib was kind of tough and chewy– but everything else was so good that we still enjoyed our plate!

At the end of your meal, you can indulge yourself with the Magic Happens Bundt Cake that would make Sorcerer Mickey proud! The drizzle on top was a sweet icing paired with whipped cream, chocolate ears, and a candy-covered sorcerer’s hat.

Magic Happens Bundt Cake

Although there was a lot going on in this bundt cake, it was very yummy! The blueberry filling in the middle of the bundt was tart compared to the sweetness of the rest of the treat, but we really enjoyed that flavor contrast!

Buuuut, you don’t have to reserve the Magic Happens Dining Package to have a treat at Plaza Inn! You can get a slice of a layer cake version of the bundt cake if you’re eating a regular meal at the restaurant too!

Magic Happens Cake

The Magic Happens Cake had that same blueberry filling from the bundt layered in between the vanilla cake, but the frosting reminded us more of the whipped frosting we’ve seen on other Plaza and Jolly Holiday treats! Honestly, we thought the Magic Happens Cake was just as good as the bundt (and we’d happily snack on either)!

And, if you’re booking the dining package with your kiddos, they will be served fried chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, corn relish, applesauce or baby carrots, a small Dasani water or small low-fat milk, and dessert (so everyone gets a taste of the magic!). The Magic Happens Dining Package costs $40 per adult and $25 per child.

While the food wasn’t incredibly unique, we’re ready for another round of fried chicken and pesto-infused mashed potatoes. This would likely be a good dining package for families with kiddos (helloooo chicken tenders) or parties looking for the meal-and-a-show experience, but who aren’t looking to invest in higher ticket experiences, like the World of Color dessert party. Overall, the Plaza Inn’s Magic Happens Dining Package is a great way to have a classic meal and catch the brand new parade in Disneyland!
