 Taylor is the queen of putting into words feelings you can't even comprehend. What's one that completely blew your mind? One I come back to really often is "You make me so happy it turns back to sad" or "I knew you'd haunt all of my what-if's". by double meaning i mean, the way she says it doesn’t specify where a comma is, IF theres a comma at all, if there’s a pause between words that we can’t fully hear, that kind of thing. i’ve got two: style:

Putting it in the context of the song makes it so painful because from the preceeding lyrics, you know that she did not mean to hurt him. It was not by choice that she had to let him go because of her personal issues and her inability to commit to him for a lifetime. For me, this particular line creates such a heartbreaking imagery of her just passively watching him slip from her grasp. The word choice is relatively straightforward, but the way it is phrased is so clever as it really conveys her inability to love him the way that he deserves although she wanted to. Share yours!
