There are 2 locations for "savegames" folder.Before the update my save files were stored in appdata/local/rockstar games/gta iv/savegames/ and after the complete edition release the saves are in documents/rockstar games/gta iv/profiles/*your profile*/

I played, literally 12 hours yesterday, never shut it off or saved at a bed. When I was done I saved at a bed just in case and I realized my last save was hours ago. When does it autosave?

From what I've seen so far, it auto saves every time you finish a mission.

I`ve seen the autosave symbol after buying clothes or robb a transporter or any other random event.
Maybe you disabled it?

It should autosave after any mission or side mission.

Unless you're using cheats. That may possibly disable autosave.

I played last night... Got through the prologue and jumped directly into GTA Online. Closed the game and then today when I turned it off it started from the beginning of the prologue...

Do I have to do something manual to save? No auto save?

game has auto save option (could have been off when you switched to online) or you can quick save any time you want on your phone (except during missions).

The game telks you how to save after the prolouge (sleep in a characters bed)

There's autosave, there's quick save, and then there's sleeping in your bed saving.

Autosave saves your progress after you do anything of note. Sleeping in your bed saves your progress while also advancing time. Quick save saves your progress AND your exact location, so when you load a quicksave you will load in right where you were when you saved, in the same vehicle(if you were in a vehicle)

Cover your knees up if you're gonna be walkin' around everywhere.
