Walt whitman high school student dies 2022

Walt Whitman High School principal, Robert Dodd, sent a letter to the Whitman community on Monday informing them of the tragic passing of an 11th grade student at the school. The full letter can be seen below:

Dear Walt Whitman High School Families,

I am writing this letter with a very heavy heart. Late Monday afternoon I was notified of the untimely death of one of our 11th-grade students. This news is both heartbreaking and hard to comprehend.

Our thoughts and most heartfelt sympathy are with the student’s family and friends. Today and over the coming weeks, you may be concerned about the reactions of your child to this news. Many students will wish to talk with their parents, so I have attached some general information that may assist you in these conversations.

As we collectively grieve, we are ready to help support you and your child/children. Counseling services will be available at school as needed in the coming days and we recommend that you take time today to listen to any further questions your child may have. If you feel that your child would benefit from talking with one of our school counselors or other mental health staff, please reach out to your child’s counselor or administrator and share with us what you need.
