West orange st patricks day parade 2022

We are BACK! The 69th Annual West Orange St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on Sunday, March 13th beginning at 12:15pm at the corners of Mt. Pleasant Avenue and Main Street. In 2020 the Parade Committee proudly selected Mellen Phillips Dangler as the 2020 Grand Marshal. However, when the pandemic struck our nation the Parade was postponed until large gatherings were safe again. Well, it has been two long years but we are back and Mel, as she is fondly known, will FINALLY march up Main Street!  Mel was born and raised in West Orange and where she continues to reside with her husband Darren and their children, Kristen, Breann, Morgan and DJ.  Mel and Darren are the proprietors of Dangler Funeral Home in West Orange and the Lewis and Carey Funeral Home in Boonton. She has volunteered countless hours to her children’s schools, church and has raised significant financial support for civic and charitable organizations including the Make A Wish, the West Orange Police Athletic League, the Lizze Chern Foundation, the Police Unity Tour and the Family Reach Foundation. Mel is well deserving of this honor and truly embodies the Parade’s core values of Family, Faith and Tradition. Serving as Mel’s 2022 Deputy Grand Marshals are John DeMars, Bobby Lamb and Robert Swenson who are all dedicated to their involvement in their Irish and Civic community organizations. What does orange mean on St Patrick's Day?

While the Irish Catholic tradition is associated with the color green, Protestants associate with the color orange because of William of Orange, the Protestant king who overthrew Roman Catholic King James the second in the Glorious Revolution.

Why did they change St Patrick's Day from blue to green?

When George III created a new order of chivalry for the Kingdom of Ireland he needed to adopt a color for it. The Order of the Garter for the previous Kingdom of England already used a dark blue (Scotland's Order of the Thistle used green) so a lighter blue was used for the Order of St Patrick.

Why do Catholics wear orange on St Patrick's Day?

While Catholics were associated with the color green, Protestants were associated with the color orange due to William of Orange – the Protestant king of England, Scotland and Ireland who in 1690 defeated the deposed Roman Catholic King James II. Therefore, on St.
