What date did As It Was come out

The lead single from Harry’s House arrives later this week

Harry Styles has announced the first single from his new album Harry’s House. The new song is called “As It Was” and it’ll get released on Thursday, March 31, at 7 p.m. Eastern.

Harry’s House is Styles’ third solo album, following 2019’s Fine Line and 2017’s Harry Styles. The new album shares a title with the 1975 Joni Mitchell song “Harry’s House / Centerpiece.” Mitchell’s official Twitter account wrote to Styles last week: “love the title.”

Last year, Harry Styles won the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance for “Watermelon Sugar.” He also got 2021 nods for Best Music Video (for “Adore You”) and Best Pop Vocal Album (for Fine Line).

Later this year, Styles is going on tour and he is also headlining the 2022 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Read “4 Takeaways From the Coachella 2022 Lineup” on the Pitch.

Harry Styles: Harry’s House

A daily roundup of the most important stories in music

Harry Styles is back with his first new music in three years, sharing the synth-pop- influenced single, ‘As It Was’.

The song opens with a child’s voice saying, “Come on Harry, we wanna say goodnight to you”, before launching into an infectious ’80s inspired hook. It was co-written and produced by Styles’ longtime collaborators Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson.

Sonically, the track is bursting with upbeat energy, but it’s a particularly vulnerable cut lyrically from Styles. “Answer the phone / Harry, you’re no good alone / Why are you sitting at home on the floor? / What kind of pills are you on?“, he sings.

An accompanying music video was filmed in London by Ukrainian director Tanu Muino. It features Styles performing various choreography in a red, sequinned leotard, opposite a woman in a blue version of the outfit, whom he’s pulled away from over the course of the song.

“Shooting [Styles] was bittersweet, as it was one of the happiest days of my life, but on the second day of the shoot, my country Ukraine was invaded, so you can imagine the insane emotions we had while shooting,” Muino said in a statement. “Me and my team from Ukraine poured so much love into this video, and you can see it onscreen.”

‘As It Was’ is the first taste of Styles’ forthcoming third studio album ‘Harry’s House’, which he announced last month with a teaser trailer. It’s set for release on May 20, and will follow on from 2019’s ‘Fine Line’.

Following the album announcement, Styles teased fans with a series of tweets under the Twitter handle You Are Home, which also had a corresponding Instagram page. He was also spotted filming a music video on a giant bed outside Buckingham Palace last month.

The album’s name, ‘Harry’s House’, was also recently given approval by Joni Mitchell, of whom Styles is a noted fan.

Mitchell, who wrote the song ‘Harry’s House/Centerpiece’ as part of the 1975 album ‘The Hissing of Summer Lawns’, retweeted Styles’ post announcing ‘Harry’s House’, writing: “love the title”.

The former One Direction member recently announced additional UK and Europe dates for his ‘Love On Tour’ stadium shows. The demand for additional performances came after a surge in demand crashed Ticketmaster’s website back in January.

Also in January, Styles cancelled the Australian and New Zealand dates on his ‘Love On Tour’, citing “the continuing challenges for international touring”.

In April, Styles will serve as one of the headliners for this year’s Coachella, alongside Billie Eilish and Ye, or Kanye West.

After setting the internet ablaze last week by announcing his third solo album, Harry’s House, Harry Styles has confirmed the title and release of the album’s first single, ‘As It Was’.

The new album was announced on March 26th, and is the follow-up to 2019’s critically acclaimed, Fine Line. To accompany the announcement, a trailer was shared in which the former One Direction man walks onstage in an empty theatre, with a design of a yellow house hoisted up behind him.

The colossal announcement followed a period of cryptic activity from Styles. This included the emergence of a mysterious social media account entitled ‘You Are Home’, as well as filming a music video on an oversized bed outside Buckingham Palace in London last month.

Now, Styles has confirmed that ‘As It Was’ is to arrive this Friday, April 1st. He made the revelation by posting the title of the song and release date on Twitter, alongside a set of photos of himself walking down what seems to be a hallway or alley.

Per a report in Billboard, a significant set of Styles’ fans think they already know some of the lyrics to ‘As It Was’. This belief stems from the fact that the ‘You Are Home’ Twitter account, which has been active since March 19th, has been posting cryptic lines that some have taken as lyrics.

Elsewhere, the Canadian legend, Joni Mitchell, has given Styles her approval of the name of his new record. Famously, she wrote ‘Harry’s House/Centerpiece’ for her 1975 album, The Hissing of Summer Lawns, and retweeted Styles’ announcement post, captioning it “love the title”. It is well known that Styles is a lifelong fan of Mitchell’s work.
