Wikipedia The Towtruck (formerly named "Tow Truck") is a hook-and-chain tow truck featured in Grand Theft Auto 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, The Lost and Damned and Grand Theft Auto V. It is manufactured by Vapid in the HD Universe. DesignGrand Theft Auto 2The Tow Truck debuted in Grand Theft Auto 2 as a towing vehicle based on the chassis of a Chevrolet COE, and a cab design similar to certain large trucks in the game (including the Van, Ice Cream Van, Hot Dog Van and the G4 Bank Van); the vehicle is only available with a yellow body color. Despite its name, the vehicle lacks any towing ability, unlike the Truck Cab and Truck Cab SX. It is only available in Multiplayer. Grand Theft Auto San AndreasIn Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the Towtruck's cabin and front end resembles a third generation Chevy C/K. The front section bears similarities with the Bobcat, only with a slightly larger grille and slightly bulkier design. The rear bed carries a dedicated towing rig with a functional crane arm and unusable amber lights on top. Towtrucks are normally seen in a grayish white color with secondary-colored side stripes on the cab, where the upper and lower borders are actually determined by the primary color. Oddly, the Towtruck shares the same horn with the Super GT. The Lost and DamnedThe Vapid Towtruck in The Lost and Damned is depicted with an older appearance, resembling a Chevrolet C3100 tow truck and a 1940-1950 Ford F-100. However, the headlights and grille look like they are from a 1975-'79 Ford Econoline van, and the windshield and door tops appear to be from a 1980's Ford F-Series. The Towtruck is mostly comparable to the Slamvan in terms of design, having almost the same front and cab, with some alterations in the headlights, the grille and the front bumper, while having marker lights on the roof. The rear bed carries a dedicated towing rig with dual crane arms and unusable amber beacons on the outer sides. The rear bumper is flat and has top-mounted circular tail lights on the outer sides of the bumper, but no reversing lights (like various vehicles). Like the "beater" variants of the Emperor, Sabre, and Vigero, the Towtruck features a distorted horn, shared with the beater Vigero. The vehicle can only be found in a beater condition, with rusty bodywork and faded "Native Engines" logos on its doors. The vehicle spawns in a variety of single colors for the cabin and the bed, and uses plain circular rims similar to the Slamvan, fitted with whitewall tires. Like its appearance in GTA 2, the Towtruck cannot be used to tow vehicles. Grand Theft Auto VThe Towtruck returns in Grand Theft Auto V with the same design as in TLAD, but this time with a functional towing hitch and roof lights, which can be activated by tapping the horn button. Unlike the TLAD iteration, the vehicle has license plates on both bumpers. The Towtruck is fitted with a CB radio, and occasional trucker chatter can be heard regardless of whether the main radio is turned on or off. The chatter will only play if playing as Trevor and in Blaine County. The vehicle spawns in a slightly dilapidated bodywork with no markings around, and spawns in a limited variety of colors, where the primary color is applied on the lower half, while the secondary color is applied on the upper half of the cab and the upper sections of the bed walls. Its wheels are similar to its previous iteration, being similar to the "Classic Rod" rims seen in Los Santos Customs. However, it uses regular tires with no whitewall details around. It is ideal for off-road use because of its soft suspensions, great grip, and powerful V8 engine. It is also a durable vehicle, and can even survive a collision with a Rhino, which normally destroys weaker vehicles. This can be especially useful during the Los Santos Riots, as it can take a large number of bullets and survive close up explosions. It has similar handling to the Sadler, but has a stronger engine and higher top speed. Its overall performance is tied with that of the Yosemite. FeaturesThe Towtruck can be used to connect almost every land vehicle in the game (an ability shared with the Tractor), making it useful for stealing locked cars or rare vehicles. It can be also used to tow aircraft as heavy as the Nevada to store them in a garage to unlock them, though it is more tricky due to the high traffic in the cities, narrow areas and limited large storage facilities. The Towtruck is able to tow multiple tow-trucks and move them with no apparent issue. However, care must be taken, because the inertia generated by the vehicle when turning to a side will be severe for the last Towtrucks of the chain, which means if the vehicle makes a sharp turn, the others from the rear will be sent flying away, usually damaging and destroying them in the process. GTA San Andreas Overview
The Lost and DamnedThe HD Universe rendition of the Towtruck is considerably inferior in performance, possessing average acceleration (owed largely to its light weight) and top speed, and poor steering, which requires the aid of brakes to corner sharply. Its rear wheel drive configuration also results in the Towtruck suffering from minor sliding after tight turns. For a rusty vehicle like the Towtruck, it is powered by a decent single-cam V8 engine with four double barrel carburetors, similar to that of the Slamvan. Said engine is coupled to a 5-speed gearbox in a front engine, rear wheel drive layout. The engine sound is also unique, being a muscle-like sound like the Slamvan, but with a much lower pitch and is rather noisy. TLAD Overview
Grand Theft Auto VVehicleThe Towtruck's performance in GTA V is slightly worse. Its traction has been dramatically reduced, so much so, that the lack of power from its V8 engine causes little-to-no wheel-spin when holding the brake and accelerator, or driving against a wall. This significant power reduction makes its acceleration rate incredibly slow, and its top speed has been majorly affected by this reduction. Handling wise, the vehicle has a short turning radius, meaning it is incapable of turning sharp corners without a risk of oversteer. However, the slow speed usually makes this impossible. Again, the car is powered by a single-cam V8 engine with four double barrel carburettors, coupled to a four-speed gearbox in a front engine, rear wheel drive layout. Its engine sound is generally low-revving and smooth, shared with vans like the Burrito, the Pony and the Speedo. FeaturesThe Towtruck shares its towing capability with the larger Towtruck, which can be completed by reversing the truck up to a vehicle and setting the crane height to the vehicle being towed (or driving a car into the hook), until a clunk noise is heard to register the attachment. Because of the inferior performance, the Towtruck can only move small vehicles with a slight struggle, and requires all available engine upgrades and a flat surface to make any progress with large vehicles. The vehicle is also capable of creating a chain and staying attached to other vehicles even if the player is not in it, meaning they can create large chains of tow trucks strung together without them de-spawning.
