Where is Q The singer from?

The secret is out. Billie Eilish confirms for the first time in her new documentary, Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, that she was in a relationship with Brandon Quention Adams.

Viewers get the first glimpse of the five-time Grammy winner, 19, and the rapper, 24, together in footage of them backstage at one of her three concerts at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles in November 2018. At the time, she was 16 and he was 22.

“Hey, Q,” she exclaims as the two embrace in a long hug. “You look good as hell.”

The nearly two-and-a-half-hour film, which is now streaming on Apple TV+, then cuts to a montage of Eilish and Q holding hands while ice skating at her 17th birthday party.

“He’s so fine,” she raves while looking at a photo on her iPhone of them cuddling on a couch. “Oh, my gosh.”

Q, who performs under the stage name 7:AMP, makes several onscreen appearances in the documentary as the ups and downs of his relationship with the “Bad Guy” singer play out.

At one point, ahead of the March 2019 release of her debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, Eilish giddily tells her then-boyfriend over the phone, “I love you. I’m in love with you.” But after he admits to drunk driving only days later, she scolds him, “I don’t want you to do that. I feel like you don’t take me seriously when I say that. I just want you safe.”

The “Therefore I Am” singer hits a breaking point with Q in April 2019. Although he travels to Indio, California, to support her at her first-ever Coachella performance, she is visibly frustrated when he does not make time to meet up with her afterward. She later tells her parents, Patrick O’Connell and Maggie Baird, that a “self-destructive” Q broke his hand by punching a wall, which worries her father in particular.

Not long after, Eilish confirms they broke up, saying, “I just wasn’t happy, and I didn’t want the same things he wanted, and I don’t think that’s fair for him. I don’t think you should be in a relationship super excited about certain things that the other person couldn’t care less about. I don’t think that’s fair to you. I didn’t think that was fair to him. And there was just a lack of effort, I think. I literally was just like, ‘Dude, you don’t even have enough love to love yourself. You can’t love me, dude. And you don’t. You think you do.’”

Q is a Soul and R&B singer/songwriter from Indianapolis. He draws inspiration from his own personal experiences to create songs with universal themes and compelling stories. Messages of love and self empowerment are layered over lush hip hop instrumental arrangements for an uplifting listening experience. Q's album "Peace, Love and War" will be released in June. The first single from the album, "done" is available on Soundcloud, along with the music video. South Florida native Q is one of the most challenging musicians to Google, but the content is well worth the hunt.  As a singer and producer, Q grew up around music, subsequently planting the seeds for his future early on.  His father, Steven "Lenky" Marsden, is an influential figure in the dancehall and reggae scene, creator of the legendary “Diwali Riddim,” sampled by the likes of Rihanna for her breakthrough hit Pon De Replay” and Sean Paul for “Get Busy.”

With buzzworthy tracks like “Take Me Where Your Heart Is,” whose music video already has 2.3 million views on YouTube, Q is slowly proving that music indeed does run in his family’s bloodline. At the Soul Train Awards 2022, host comedian and actor Deon Cole, viewers can catch the rising star on the amplified stage, but before then, get to the burgeoning artist better.

  • His stage name is his real name

The rising star has one of the most unsearchable names in the business, but his story is even more unique because he was born Q Steven Marsden. In a vintage interview with Complex, Q told reporters, “My dad named me the letter Q because he just thought I'd be destined for something good, so he just wanted to name me something weird.”

  • He’s the son of Jamaican immigrants

He spent much of his childhood listening to the tunes of his parent’s native land, including legendary artist Bob Marley. Q’s father produced for Sean Paul, while his mother played alongside Beenie Man and Bounty Killer.

  • He grew up around music

Q’s introduction to music came at a very early age. His father is also a musician—a producer. His dad would always take him to the studio, where he often heard the sounds of Michael Jackson and Earth, Wind & Fire playing. His mother is a massive fan of the legendary gospel group, The Winans. “A lot of reggae artists like Dennis Brown, Bob Marley,” he was once quoted saying. “Definitely the peak of ‘70s and ‘80s music.”

  • Creative control is essential to him, but he’s willing to negotiate

Q self-produced his debut EP, Forest Green. The project, while heavily r&b, experimented with sounds of soul, acoustic pop, and many other genres. Having creative control over all aspects of a project is important but he's also open to seeing other creative perspectives.

  • His dad has writing credit on his album

His dad has co-writer’s credit on his track "Take Me Where Your Heart Is.”  In an earlier interview, the crooner shared, “My dad is cut from a different cloth, you know! He's just like “Yo, this is weird, but this is good because I've never heard it before.” Yeah, so he admits this is some weird music. This is this time, but it’s good that he’s like that—he's a very brutally honest person.”

The Soul Train Awards 2022 premieres Saturday, November 26 at 8 pm ET/PT on BET and BET Her.
