The Butterfly Spirits are important yet dangerous items used in The Mimic. They are mainly used to unlock glowing doors and were first used in Control's Book: Chapter II. They're also used for "guidance" to paths in order to proceed to the next areas in certain parts of chapters.

Appearance

Normal

The Normal Butterfly Spirit appears to be a lepidopterous creature with a pair of white wings, that illuminates the darkness, though it will not light up your path. These White Spirits might have been the souls of humans whom once lived in-between. They most likely were not wicked, but they were also not pleased with their old lives.

Corrupted

The Corrupted Butterfly Spirit resembles much a Normal Butterfly Spirit, unlike the white and radiant look of a regular spirit, the Corrupted Spirit is black in color and emits slight yellow glints from it. These Corrupted Spirits are possibly the souls of humans whom once lived in wickedness before getting killed by Kintoru. They could also possibly represent a dark side, or even normal spirits that got corrupted.

Blue

The Blue Butterfly Spirit looks identical to the normal Butterfly Spirit, with its white color replaced with a light blue tone. These Blue Spirits are possibly the souls of humans whom once lived peacefully or pleased with what they had in life before getting killed by Kintoru.

Guiding Spirit

The Guiding Butterfly Spirits appear to be similar to the normal one, but instead, they have a bright yellow tint on their wings and flutter around in groups. It cannot be picked up or used for doors, nor offerings. Instead, they guide the player in certain areas such as:

  • The Realm of The forgotten in Chapter II.
  • The beginning of The Final Maze to the maze's map in Chapter II.
  • The beginning of The Witch Trials.
  • The Cursed Forest in Chapter IV, floating above the cursed armor pieces of Kusonoki that you have to burn.

These butterflies are also stationary, floating around in the area they're in, but they don't fly away from their spot.

Red

The Red Butterfly Spirits look strikingly similar to the regular one, though it is specified by its bright red tone. It served as a healing item, which can restore your HP by 40.

Unidentified Spirits

These Butterfly Spirits look correspondingly with the Guiding Butterfly Spirits. However, they have no use and can only be seen in the end of Chapter IV, serving as decorations.

History

Events

The Butterfly Spirits were once mere humans until they were cursed by Kintoru. There were many of them seen throughout Control's Book and The Witch Trials. The curse metamorphosed their souls, turning them into butterfly spirits. The spirits that served as the core key items throughout Chapter II - III were all Yasu's Friends. They guided Yasu throughout his journey in Kintoru's twisted realm. Some were used as sacrifices, such as to open glowing doors, as claimed by Kintoru herself.
