Unfortunately, you cant just throw wildflower seeds on grass, as the soil needs to be prepared before planting. It is best to remove as much grass as possible from the lawn before putting wildflower seeds down. To give your seeds a good start, it is better to plant them in early spring or fall.

Planted this seed mix last April, and couldn’t have been happier! The next few months provided continuous surprises!
Beautiful poppies, bachelor buttons, cosmos, clarkia, forget-me-not, coreopsis, a highly ornamental red clover…
It seems a few things may have self-seeded or are returning this spring. I had hoped to purchase this mix again, but can’t find it anywhere 🥺
I don’t want to purchase another brand that has heavy coatings on the seed that might harm my pets.
Anyone complaining this mix contained weeds probably can’t identify flower seedlings, or didn’t prepare the soil well enough.
I tilled the area and raked, prior to spreading the seed. The seed germinated quickly and gave me a succession of lovely blooms into September. Dead-heading from time to time kept the Cosmos and bachelor buttons blooming and more compact.
Held up well, even with regular traffic of large dogs.

What soil is best for wildflower seeds?

Wildflowers grow best in low quality soil, so do not use compost or any fertiliser as that will allow grasses to grow that out-compete the flowers. If your soil is rich then you may need to remove the top 3-6 inches of top soil to ensure that the conditions are right for growing wildflowers.
