When it comes to haircuts, not all are created equal. Just because you see and love a certain haircut, does not necessarily mean it will be a good fit for all, and here is why.  Not only does your hair texture play an important role in what determines a cut that is suitable for you, but your face shape plays an even more important role.  With that in mind, we are sharing with you How To Know What Haircut Suits You.

When determining if that new haircut you're seeing is doable for you, the first thing that must be taken into consideration is your face shape.

This can be done very simply ; firstly tie all your hair away, stand in front of a mirror. Draw the circumfrance of your face shape on the mirror with a lipstick or marker pen. Walk away and you will see your face shape .  Your hairdresser will also be able to advise you.

By referring to the above diagram, determine which face shape is closest to your own.  Once you have  this, you can take a look at some of our tips below to see which haircuts are ideal for each of the face shapes listed.

Oval Face Shape

How lucky are those with an Oval face shape? Oval is considered to be the most ideal face shape of all because most hairstyles can be worn with an oval face.   Really, the sky is the limit.  One can go extreme here, long or short being the most ideal.  Mid length cuts will work, but can take away from the features.

With an oval face shape, you can part in the middle or on the side, or switch between the two depending on your mood.  Your hair can be worn smooth or straight, textured or curled, so the options are endless.

Long Face Shape

If your face shape is long, try to avoid haircuts that are too long or short haircuts. This will only accentuate the length of the face.  Your fellow long face shape celebs are Sarah Jessica Parker and Liv Tyler, so images of their hair serve as great inspirations.  If your face shape is longer, and you do decide to stick with a longer length, you can add a fringe that will help break up the length and a compliment a shorter forehead.

Round Face Shapes

If your face shape is round, go for a long bob with a center part to break up the roundness and elongate the face shape.  Try to avoid haircuts that hug the face, as these will only accentuate the roundness.  Another option, is to go for a long side swept bang or an asymmetric cut. Square Face Shapes

Ladies with square face shapes, the goal is to elongate the face.  Avoid haircuts that expose the forehead.  If your going for a shorter cut, keep the fringe whispy  for a textured look.  Nicole Richie, and Olivia Wilde share your face shape.

Heart Face Shapes

If your face shape is Heart, draw attention to your eyes and cheek bones. Bangs  are a great way to camoflage the width of the forehead and can be worn with any length you choose.  Bobs should remain chin length  to broaden out this area of the face or just below. Reese Witherspoon, and Kerry Washington both have heart shaped faces.  The length determines where you need to add width to the face and the bangs determine if you need to cut cut down length of the face or width of the forehead.  This can also be used to camouflage a low hairline.

Diamond Face Shapes

For those of you with diamond face shapes, you will need a haircut that will balance out the narrow chin, minimize the wide cheekbones, and decrease the overall length of the face.  Whichever hairstyle you choose, should soften your features.  Aim for deep side parts, and lots of layers.  Avoid straight bangs and flatter styles, center parts and bangs that are too short.  Heart shaped  bangs will disguise a wide forehead.  A bit of length gives width to the chin. For longer lengths, be sure to add layers.  Chin bangs like below can be a great option as they really help to accentuate the features.
