Introduction Show
Compressed gas cylinders can be extremely hazardous when misused or abused. Compressed gas cylinders can present a variety of hazards due to their pressure and/or content.
Without proper use and care compressed gas cylinders can explode killing workers and destroying equipment. Cylinders can also become flying projectiles when cylinder valves are damaged or broken off. Regulators can become bullets that tear through workers if safety precautions are not taken. Careful procedures are necessary for handling the various compressed gases, cylinders, regulators or valves used to control gas flow, and the piping used to confine gases during flow. This booklet can be used as a guideline for the safe use of compressed gas. Compressed Gas Safety Guidelines A. Identification “ALWAYS READ THE LABEL”
B. Handling and Use 1. Before cylinders are first used the following precautions should be taken:
2. Cylinder Storage
3. Moving Cylinders
4. Use and Operation
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER
Never use oxygen as a substitute as a “compressed air” to run pneumatic tools, in oil heating burners, to start internal combustion engines, to blow out pipelines, or to create pressure for ventilation.
5. Cylinder Leaks
6. After the cylinder is no longer needed, the following steps should be taken
When using nitrogen to pressurize a system you should? When pressurizing a system with nitrogen you should; charge through a pressure regulator;place a relief valve in the downstream line from the pressure regulator. After recovering refrigerant, the Nitrogen used to flush the system may be: legally vented.
Is it best practice to use dry nitrogen to break the vacuum when dehydrating by the triple evacuation method however it?It is best practice to use dry nitrogen to break the vacuum when dehydrating by the triple evacuation method. However, it; requires a pressure regulator.
Which of the following are recommended safe work practices when recovering refrigerants?25 Cards in this Set. What should a technician use to determine a safe pressure for leak testing? When leak checking a system, NEVER pressurize the system with oxygen or compressed air. When mixed with refrigerants, oxygen or compressed air can cause an explosion. To determine the safe pressure for leak testing, check the data plate for the low-side test pressure value.
