Who are Luna Guitars made by?

Launched in 2005 from the mind of a professional stained-glass artist, Luna began as an acoustic guitar brand that swiftly established itself among popular artists as having instruments with a unique look and delightful sound. New models featured artwork from well-known artists, Henna designs and other patterns that with a goal in mind to place a unique touch to an already main stream instrument. Many design ideas came from symbolic elements that have empowered people throughout history such as the dragon and the phoenix. Guitars were built with slimmer necks and lighter bodies, keeping the female guitar-player in mind by offering a comfortable alternative. To understand the thought-process behind Luna instruments is to understand and appreciate world culture, nature and art.

As time progressed, we expanded the line to include electric guitars, ukuleles and bluegrass and eventually percussion, which diversified our audience and demographic. It was at this point we noticed Luna becoming increasingly popular. Joining the ukulele market helped boost Luna’s presence tremendously and by 2014, we needed to expand our marketing approach to accommodate a broader consumer base. The idea was to make a unique mark and create an impressionable product that will inspire others. From pioneering the use of laser-etching for designs, to creative High Tide inlays made of abalone, and utilizing different tropical woods to create landscapes, the goal was to encourage uniqueness and excel in their craft. It was this type of creative thinking that landed many of our ukuleles in recording studios, stages and among many trusted retailers across the world.

In other words, the Luna brand as well as the Luna Tribe has been growing at a rapid pace ever since. (The Luna Tribe includes anyone that owns a Luna instrument!)

As a lifestyle brand, Luna promotes happiness through adventure, learning new things and channeling your inner creativity. The idea is to choose an instrument that inspires you to think above and beyond and perform like no one is watching. We are here for the beginner players and support the seasoned singer-songwriters and musicians along their tough but rewarding journey. Luna Guitars, commonly referred to simply as Luna, is a musical instrument company that manufactures string and percussion instruments. Its range of products include steel-string acoustic guitars, mandolins, ukuleles, cajones, kalimbas, and both acoustic and electric bass guitars. Currently a subsidiary of Armadillo Enterprises, Inc.

History[edit]

Established in 2005, Luna Guitars is an instrument company launched through the creative lens of a professional stained-glass artist. The focus was to create instruments that had a unique identity and a strong brand story, which has become a winning concept for the brand. New models featured artwork from well-known artists, henna designs, and other patterns that add a distinctive touch to an already mainstream instrument. Many Luna concepts came from symbolic elements that have empowered people throughout history such as the dragon and the phoenix. Guitars were built with slimmer necks and lighter bodies which not only appealed to female guitarists but caught the attention of players from all backgrounds and skill levels. To understand the thought-process behind Luna instruments is to understand and appreciate the beauty of nature and the arts.

Over the years, Luna added electric guitars, ukuleles and a variety of bluegrass instruments which diversified and grew the audience. These instruments stood out from other brands due to their intricate craftsmanship. From laser-etched tattoo designs and high tide wave inlays made of abalone, to utilizing tropical woods to create landscapes, musicians have a prolific variety to pick from and inspire them to create. This type of creative thinking landed Luna instruments on big stages and recording studios across the globe. The Luna Tribe, a group of Luna instrument owners, was growing quickly.

In 2017, Luna introduced the percussion line[2] featuring cajons with an adjustable snare. Luna cajons focused on enhancing three key elements of the performance: visual aesthetics, functionality, and comfort. Like the fretted instruments, the percussion line saw success and expanded, including additional models and instruments. In 2022, three Kalimbas were introduced to the line[3] as a more relaxing instrument that serves different purposes, from mental health benefits to music.

Today, the Luna brand is known as a lifestyle brand,[4] relatable to all players and skill levels, creating quality instruments at an affordable price. There are three main branches that complete the Luna brand: Luna Guitars, Luna Ukes, Luna Percussion, with Luna Guitars being the main and dominate logo. From artists such as Rick Springfield[5] and The Warren Brothers[6] to music departments in schools and charity organizations, there is something unique for everyone to play. Luna players are beginners as well as seasoned singer-songwriters and musicians.
