Why is destiny chat not working?

Bungie has recently released a new update for Destiny 2 and enabled cross-play voice chat. But, as reported by some players, the in-game voice chat is not working when they join a fire team. And if you are one of them, there is no need to worry. In this article, we’ve gathered some working fixes for you to fix the Destiny 2 Voice chat not working issue. So, have a read.

Fixes for Destiny 2 Voice chat not working issue:

1. Perform Basic Troubleshooting

If you face the problem of hearing your friend’s voice using in-game voice chat during your play of Destiny 2, you should check these things first:

Look at your headphones and speakers connection and see if there are any loose chords or cables. Ensure that all chords and cables are plugged in.

Try replugging or unplugging your headphone or speaker. If the device you’re playing on has a mic switch, make sure you turn it on.

Xbox players need Xbox-certified headsets so that your device can be successfully connected and you can participate in the chat.

If you do all the above steps and find out that your audio device is not a problem, go ahead with the fixes mentioned below. These fixes will help you sort out your other problems.

  1. Make sure you’re checking the voice chat settings

Many players have found that the voice chat setting carries over from Steam to console clients. This implies that if you have ever logged into this game through disabled voice chat and Steam, you may face the issue of malfunctioning in-game voice chat on your console. To sort out this problem, you will have to log into the game through Steam and again re-enable voice chat settings. Here’s how you have to go ahead with this:

First, log in to destiny 2 through Steam.

Turn on voice chat after opening the settings menu and selecting sound

Close the game on your PC and then start relaunching it on your console.

Now see for yourself if the chat works properly.

Now, even if this method doesn’t resolve your issue, simply move on to the next fix.

3. Check the privacy settings of your Stadia

If you are playing Destiny 2 on Stadia, ensure your privacy settings are properly configured so that your game can access your microphone. Here’s how you can do that. For Stadia,

Select privacy after navigating to stadia settings

Make sure that the option, “Who can send you voice chat and party invites” is not set to Private under any circumstances.

4. Make sure that your audio driver has been updated

If you’re using a faulty or outdated auto driver, there are chances that your voice chat option will not function auto-driver. Do change your auto driver either automatically or manually as soon as possible.

Disclaimer: I am not the person who originally found this, but it took quite a bit of digging, so I am going to post it here. The original can be found here.

I have had a problem with in-game VC since I first started playing D2, where people could hear my mic, but I could not hear others. I recently found someone who had the same issue, and this is what they did to solve it:

  1. Right Click on the speaker/sound icon on your taskbar, and select "Sounds".

  2. Go to the "Playback" tab on the left.

  3. Disable all audio sources that you are not using. For example, if you are using "Speakers (Realtek(R) Audio)" but the system is taking audio from that and "Speakers (THX Spatial - Synapse)", disable "Speakers (THX Spatial - Synapse)".

  4. Profit! You should be able to hear others in VC, as all audio is being broadcasted by one source by the system.

I think the problem that occurred for me was that VC audio was being broadcasted by a different source than all other in-game audio, so I could hear it.

This worked for me when I did it, and hopefully should work if you can't hear others in VC.
