The Cat in the Hat Comes Back was the planned sequel to the 2003 film Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat with Mike Myers returning as the title character.

Plot

The Cat returns to Conrad and Sally's place, while their mother is out doing errands. It would have followed the plot of the book. Rest of the plot is unknown.

Why It Was Cancelled

1. The first film was panned by critics, audiences and fans of the book alike.
2. The Cat in the Hat was a critical and box-office failure.
3. Fans of the book were offended about how many inappropriate jokes were used in the first film.
4. Audrey Geisel banned all future live-action adaptations of her late husband's work after expressing distaste for the film.
5. Both Spencer Breslin and Dakota Fanning are too old to reprise their roles as Conrad and Sally respectively.
6. Mike Myers didn't want to play the title character again.
7. Mike Myers and Alec Baldwin both regretted starring in the film since its first screening according to producer Brian Grazer.

• The sequel was permanently cancelled.
• Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat is a stand-alone film.
• There were plans for an animated adaptation of The Cat In The Hat and its possible sequel, which were announced by Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment, following the success of The Lorax. However, further plans to the film weren't announced since then and the project was replaced by The Grinch.
• In January 2018, the Warner Animation Group announced that they have picked up the rights for the animated Cat in the Hat reboot movie, along with many of Seuss' works. However, it is currently unknown who will be cast in the reboot film.
• There are three animated theatrical films released, Horton Hears A Who (2008) (by 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios), The Lorax (2012) and The Grinch (2018) (by Universal and Illumination).
• A Dr. Seuss Cinematic Universe was formed by Universal starting with The Lorax on March 2, 2012 (to celebrate Dr. Seuss' 108th birthday) and then The Grinch on November 9, 2018 (which was Illumination's final DSCU film and the final film that Audrey Geisel worked on). The Cat in the Hat reboot will be the third installment and will be the first DSCU movie released under the Warner Animation Group as part of Seuss Enterprises' new deal with Warner Bros.
• A television series titled The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That was commissioned by PBS Kids.

The Cat In The Hat 2 is a 2025 American 3D computer animated comedy drama love story film produced by Warner Animation Group for Warner Bros. Pictures. A direct sequel to The Cat in the Hat, the film features the voices of Brooklynn Prince, Jack Black, JD McCrary, Mckenna Grace, Mel Gibson, Jim Carrey, Danny DeVito, Benedict Cumberbatch, and James Arnold Taylor. The film's plot takes place directly after the events of the first film, where Sally Walden and her brother Conrad Walden spend their happy lives having tons of fun together, as well as visits from the Cat. But when evil Ivo Manozar threatens Anville, Sally, Conrad, and the Cat must unite the Dr. Seuss legends in order to save Anville, with help from a new friend, Armor Diamond.

Released on January 5, 2025, The Cat In The Hat 2 grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide, and received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised it as an improvement over its predecessor, as well as its emotional depth, animation, humor, performances, and musical score. It is also the best-reviewed The Cat In The Hat film, Warner Animation Group's most successful film to date.
